This more than anything I think.

It's just interesting how these decisions, whether made for financial gain or for more insidious reasons, ultimately serve to keep the American public in the dark.

I really don't think Americans are actually so stupid that they think sports are more important than global politics. More interesting, perhaps. But 80 percent-ish of the the American public just said no to Syria. Apologies for a rare display of optimism from me, but maybe we aren't completely hopeless.

Which makes this blatant pandering even more offensive really.

I do my best to stay away from news in general today... and without more information than you offered in the thread header I can't just blindly jump into a neglected 3 foot deep pool with so much algae it turns you green. (Actually, I can sadly think of more than 3 guys I know who would be happy with their green skin for Ninja Turtles action!!!!!!

The only "bad" news I get is 2nd hand and it's usually just as inaccurate as "telephone the game" was when you were a kid (if you went to a cool school that inadvertently taught you a few con-man skills)...

It wasn't an article though, it was pictures of this week's TIME magazine for the US, Europe, Asia, and the South Pacific. One of the regions has different content and a different cover article, which is commentary in of itself.

See... I'm glad we had this conversation Byte. Your reply intrigued me so much that I clicked on the link. Without even having to blow up the pictures to read any of the smaller text, that shit is funny as hell. :)

The sad thing is, if I actually took the time to blow up the pictures to read the fine print, I'd probably shed a tear. :(

My apologies for not waiting for your reply Byte, but my mind only remembers original thoughts for a very limited time. You know that's how I roll.

Although I have yet to blow the pictures up to read the whole headline, this is still stuck in my mind. I stare at the four pics and I read the headlines back and forth.... over and over.... When you willfully reject the details of the stories and just dwell over the big-picture of what this link shows, you find yourself getting lost in a hypnotic pendulum like sway as you glance to the first, and then to the second, and then back to the first, and then to the third, and then back to the first, and then to the fourth... over and over....

After having read them like that for quite a while, and looking at things that way, I discovered a few things about myself.

Although I don't care much for "Major League" sports these days even, I care even less about college sports. At the same time, even with all of my "big-picture pondering", I don't know anything about Vladmir's views on the world. The fact that I doubt anyone who read this article has any more a clue than I do is besides the point. In my "ID" I would like to think that I could say that I read the article and gain some insight about the topic.

In the end, I won't likely read either article one single time in the course of my life.

The really strange thing to me is that although I walk away from this without gaining any knowledge about the two polar opposite subjects, I do have rabid opinions about one of them. It's not at all the story I would have assumed I would have cared more about, and in that way, I'm ashamed to be a part of the "problem".

I'm not sure that it's important what Putin thinks. (Altho I suppose it's important for us that he DOES think.)

It's been said that nations don't have friends, they have interests. We're fortunate enough to have the English-language version of Russia Television (RT) and CCTV (I think it stands for Communist China Television) broadcast into our area. One week of watching both- with an open mind- and you will be able to suss out both China's and Russia's major interests. One year of watching both, and you will prolly figure out some of their strategy.

I wish I could say the same for The US government and the US media. We have involved ourselves in so many mystery actions... as in, "WTF did we get out of THIS?"... that I can no longer discern what our AMERICAN interests might be. For example, what did we get out of invading Afghanistan amd Iraq, and toppling Qaddafi and attempting to topple Assad? Not oil (Libya's oil production is now 1/10 of what it was under Qaddafi), not stability, not "winning the war on terror". All we seem to have gotten is blowing a hole in our budget, more terrorists running around, and an even bigger bullseye painted on our back (if such were possible). But if you can spot the winners and losers from those scenarios you get bonus points!

The other thing I get out of watching US media is that they have an intense interest Americans being really, really stupid. Stupid enough to stand in line for five hours to buy shit they can't afford and don't need. Stupid enough to pay attention to the laser pointer being shone at the wall!

I'm not judging, I'm just suggesting that you should have as little inclination to believe anything you would hear on RT or CCTV as you do any of the NEWS networks state-side. In my opinion, if you've balanced them long enough to believe any one of them then you haven't figured them out, but you've figured out whatever they want you to figure out by watching them regularly enough to think you're an expert on the topic.

I understand that intense desire to figure everything out, especially from somebody in the RWED I've known for so long. We may have not seen eye to eye on many things over the years, but I believe in the long run we have similar ideals. The US, the US Government (and by extention) the US news is designed to be so convoluted that only a few can figure it out.

I've managed to cut my property taxes in half after 2 years and nearly 300 documented phone calls. I've since managed to re-acquire nearly every cent of my FED/STATE income taxes and my local property taxes in other ways that are only available to somebody making so little.

Frem made me a believer years ago that he has made positive changes for people WELL out of his personal circle.

As I've stated before, Your Government is LYING to you and is USING you. You already KNOW this.

Welcome to adulthood in America, right?

My advice to you, and to anyone else is to look inward...

If you can somehow better your situation brick by brick everyday, you will have to worry about a whole lot less tomorrow.

Maybe you'll be different when that day comes, but I seriously let just about anything slide off my back like water off of good shingles. No leaks....

Unintentionally, I did something last night that makes me worry deep down. While holding 1/8 of luke warm coffee near the end of lunch break, I dropped it completely while putting it to my lips. I know MS isn't hereditary, but I didn't hit anything.... I simply dropped that cup in my lap.... My Mom has MS and I worry that an episode like that could mean more than just a klutzy reaction....

In JR High or HS... hell even in my 3 college trys or my old GOOD job, I would have been mortified. I just got up from the table, looked down at my (thankfully not scalded) junk, showed it to all of my co-workers and said "You're not COOL unless you PEE your PANTS!"

and from that moment on all night, I risked trench nut while waddling around in my Columbian-bean pee-stain.

How's that for unbiased truth?

6IX... I'm just intensely interested in finding shit out, whether it makes me happy or prepares me for anything or... not. :-) Just geeky that way, I guess.

Watching CCTV and RT (and BBC and Reuters and Counterparties) I get so see how the narratives are different. China is an interesting case. Being a planned economy dedicated to servicing our consumer economy, they have become consumerist themselves- very much like us. And the one thing I see about the Chinese perspective is that they want to be ENTIRELY self-sufficient, in the sense that they want their future 100% assured. They also like things to be smooth... no surprises, no military, no open conflict. But they will work like hell in to insure that when they deal with us, they deal with us from a position of economic strength.

ETA- Stop buying shit you don't need. Cut up your credit cards. Simplify your life. Put down that iPhone, unplug yourself from the virtual reality that keeps you numb. Go out and garden, or build a doghouse, or learn to sew. I know someone- very nice lady, very responsible in many ways- hard worker, fiercely protective of her family (hubby, mom, elder daughter, son-in-law, grandson, and younger autistic daughter) who is 100% great on almost everything but she LOVES to shop. That's her hobby. Nothing really expensive, but she buys scads and scads of stuff at garage sales, and little trinkets- 20 pairs of baby booties, that kind of thing. She can NEVER get ahead that way.
