Horriffic......

I just don't understand the whole "rusty tools" thing.....

Were they REALLY rusty? Would anybody you know EVER allow a rusty tool to go in their mouth? Did the good doctor hide the rusty tools and only have the sterilized tools out before he drugged his patients, only to bring out the Strangeland boxed set after they were out cold?

Any way I look at this story, if he is actually guilty, this could only be full-on knowledgeable and willful transmission of a disease.

Occham's razor says that the more likely story is that whoever reported this story embellished wildly about one single instrument in what is probably thousands that had a nearly un-detectible trace of rust on it.

Also, 75% or more of my time ever spent with my family dentist was spent with his dental assistant. They are both very professional and I would trust them implicitly with my teeth and my health, but I'm just using that as an example. The dentist makes a ton more than the assistant(s). Maybe they're going through a divorce or something really bad happened and on the very day that they treated a Hep-C patient, that was the day the sterilization equipment wasn't used properly. Hell... maybe getting a dental assistant degree/certificate today involves only a test that leaves as much room for error as your local DMV test does.

Digest that for a moment.....

No matter how dirty your dentist's office is, you're about 100,000,000 times more likely to die in a car crash leaving the office than you are to get Hep-C while getting a tooth capped.....

BTW.... Hi Wish :)

I don't go. I can keep my teeth clean on my own, as I was trained as a child, and I don't need my teeth bleached friggin day glow for them to be pearly enough.

Byte, you've taken hermetism to a whole new level

Reminds me of House and Monk, neither of them went to a dentist either.
Gonna have to go eventually. Everyone gets cavities sooner or later... and that's a whole new level of OWWW.
In your case I'd request one of those sleepy pills they give nervous kids.

Also, hey Jack yer soundin' a bit more together than you were six months ago, glad to see! How have you been doing?

I have a feeling a lot of this guys patients were low income, or illegal, and they don't zactly do a whole lotta questioning... Sad, these people prolly not gonna get a dime to help either as I doubt the guy had insurance...

Haven't had a cavity for eight years. I don't think it is necessary anymore to pay a man 200 bucks to clean my teeth with sharpened steel when all I need is a mirror and something sufficiently pointy. The last time I went in they said they didn't have anything to clean off my teeth and STILL charged me.

I don't go to doctors anymore either, but for more cynical and or paranoid reasons, plus a not-insignificant amount of apathy.

Jack is sounding better.

I don't go either, if he pulls the fillings out I won't be able to communicate with the people on Alpha 5.

Keep the Shiny side up

Unfortunately, this is sort'a like the "Americans call Miss America a Terrorist" thread. A miniscule number of folks screw up or act like assholes, and suddenly all Americans or dentists or whatever are racist/dangerous/whatever.

Yeah, I always had a feeling that doing that too much CAUSES a few cavities...

A few years ago I had one of the dumbest hygenists ever, I think. She said "Well, you should be fine because bad teeth aren't genetic" I tried explaining that there's about a dozen pills that'll rot your whole head, and a good dozen genetic conditions that include weak gums and thin enamel, ect.

Smugly "Well, I've never heard of that and I work with teeth all day"

"So, you think the DNA that governs teeth just materializes out of thin air? You only get it from two places hon, your mama, your dada, and in your case maybe the postman?"

Haven't been back. I HAVE found a simply wonderful dentist since though. Tells amusing anecdotes while the shot kicks in, takes his time, super careful...

More unnecessary and obsolete.

Although I don't know that the sheer quantity of people out there who are assholes counts as "miniscule." After all, I'm among them.

I brought it up simply because I was waiting to hear what the results would end up being, if it would turn out to be just a scare or more than. I'd say a couple dozen people with aids and hep b and c is pretty damn bad. And that prolly isn't ALL of 'em either...

It SHOULD make you evaluate your dentist, not run screaming.

Hey Wish. :) I have my good days and my bad days. Try to keep out of here on the bad ones and I'm usually successful at it. Haven't posted on Facebook since November since the only time I'd ever post there was while drinking... well that's the case here as well, but when I posted on Facebook it was on the "walls" of people who I actually KNEW in real life. Not.... Cool....

Overall, the bad days are pretty far and few between these days. My bro has gotten the help he needs and is out of my dad's house and in his own place now. I hate the fact that I not only qualify for benefits like food stamps but actually need them in the current situation, but if I can manage to scrounge up an extra $700 bucks more than I spend from now till the end of the year this will be the first year I've not spent more than I made since 2009 when I got laid off.

Yeah... things are definitely a lot better than they were 6 months ago. TONS better than they were a year ago. Thanks for noticing :)

I really should see a dentist though. I can't afford it at the moment, but for 5 years I had insurance that covered 2 cleanings a year and gave percentages off of major work, but I never went out of laziness. I do floss and rinse with mouthwash at least once everyday now, which is a habit I just got into about 2 years ago. My gums have receded a bit, and sometimes when I drink something cold they're sensitive, but I'm hoping I don't have any cavities when I finally do go. I never had one by the time I stopped going, so I'll be pretty panicky about getting my teeth drilled since I've never experienced it before.

I would LOVE to get my teeth whitened, but that's definitely out of my price range at the moment. I'm afraid that with my smoking and coffee drinking habits that it wouldn't last long anyways. I really think it takes about 5 years off you when you get it done though, which would put me back in my late 20s. Something about pearly whites that screams "youth".

I'd love to hear a follow up on this story. Let us know if you do. It's been my experience that you'll never hear how this story turns out though. Seems the news people are notorious about getting the story out there to the public, but rarely ever follow through on their research.

Hey Byte :)
