Sometimes you own the libs. Sometimes, the libs own you.

Here's my thoughts:

Scenario A: Obama caves and gives in to limited GOP demands, allowing the GOP to 'claim' a win, and ensuring that they don't suffer too much at the next election. (Unlikely)

Scenario B: Shutdown rumbles on and pressure builds on the GOP leading to just before the debt ceiling date - when they finally capitulate. They are humiliated, and are punished at the next election, losing some seats in the House. But the debt ceiling is raised, and major worldwide financial disruption averted.

Scenario C: Shutdown rumbles on, GOP resists public pressure and debt ceiling is breached. Over the next few days the stock market falls, and signs that the system is going to go into all out meltdown increase... At the eleventh hour a deal is reached, and all out financial meltdown is averted. The US is downgraded and it's borrowing costs go up - and the Tea Party largely gets the blame. It's the beginning of the end of the Tea Party.

Scenario D: The same as Scenario C, but with no deal in time. The US (and the world) is plunged into another deep recession. US is severely downgraded, and its interest payments skyrocket. The dollar loses its status as reserve currency of the world. America never recovers.

I'm afraid to even guess. There's too much insanity.

I can't help but think this was the reason for the shutdown all along...

Dems get to look like they wanna be domestically focused and Repubs still get to look like they are standing on a hard non-entitlement line but will still look gracious when they give in, for the sake of the little cancer kids, of course...
...and everyone else is happy we're keeping our own dough for a minute (at least that's what it LOOKS like on the surface.)

Means this could go on for a few more weeks, as they don't wanna end it right after freezing the arms aid, that would look suspicious...

Either way, it's just a game idn't it? Wonder how many people would have to set fire to themselves on the White House lawn before they'd pretend to let anyone think we have a say?

A through C. I'm too cynical and not optimistic enough to believe that we could actually crash the economy and that this isn't all just a ridiculous show.

And I'm not enough of a jackass to try to ensure that society gets wrecked, especially considering the above and because I doubt I have a popular mandate to do so. :(

For the record I think we're in B-C territory. Hard to say which of the two is more likely. But if the US is downgraded as a result of this, my guess is the Dems will take back the House at the midterms.

It's not personal. It's just war.

Well, one stone can cause a landslide. I'd throw in. I just want to see more movement from everyone else too.

We're the Les Amis de L'ABC sitting in that pub, Frem, wondering if the populace will join us.
