So, if everyone thinks the earth is flat does that make it true?

If I look at 1,000 sources about a topic and because I am biased I chose to believe the one source that is propaganda. Then it doesn’t matter how many more sources I looked at then you. Especially if you chose to believe the 5 or 10 sources you checked that were correct does it?

That is what Signym does and then gets pissed off because we don’t understand. Look how many sources I checked she says, as though the amount of sources a person checks determines the facts.

I win, you lose.

Did you get that precious or should I explain it again?

One question answered:
http://rt.com/usa/167912-ica-mi6-isis-iraq/
'It fell on deaf ears': CIA and MI6 knew about ISIS assault in advance, failed to react

According to a report by the UK-based Telegraph, http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/middleeast/iraq/10918607/How
-US-and-Britain-were-warned-of-Isis-advance-in-Iraq-but-turned-a-deaf-ear.html
senior Kurdish intelligence officials said they tried to explain to their allies in the CIA, MI6, and the central Iraqi government that the members of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) could represent a great threat to Iraq's stability, but that those warnings failed to spark any action.

For what it's worth, Obama has now lately referred to the group as ISIS, instead of ISIL.

I know keeping up w/ groups and splinter groups and what they call themselves isn't always a clear cut matter. Minor detail, but Obama, more than any other , seems to excel in needlessly stepping out on his own, with nary an explanation.

He really does believe he's more extraordinary than virtually all other humans.

What a putz.

I don't consider ANY source to be "reliable". Heck, have you looked at zerohedge??? Every headline they post claims it's the end of something... the end of the dollar, the end of Iraq, the end of the banking system, the end of the world. I recommend it, and it's at the top of my list, not because it's reliable but because they're a terrific aggregator- they relay items from RT and WSJ and Reuters and Al Jazeera, and they do it fast.

I guess when it comes to news, I follow the House principle: Everybody lies. Or at least shades the truth. I kind of knew that Russia wasn't going to send in the troops to Ukraine when I saw the outrage kind of fade away from RT - no use getting people all riled up for nothing, no? Because then you have a PR problem to deal with! If I want to know about American outrages, I go to Global Research. See how that works? Different sources are good for different things, including a window on what the administration in another nation is planning on doing. If I see the outrage factor building up on RT again, I'll start to worry.

My concern with the press is them being a driving force behind decisions made by the President. Between the press and some Republicans constantly suggesting the President has been acting skittishly when it comes to the Middle East, I feel it may start to influence his decisions. (Perhaps it already has)

We need to make sure ISIS stays within the parameters of where it exists now and eventually the Sunnis will clean house. Iraq is a failed state created by the British I believe, and we need to let it divide itself up into what it resembled before. Let geography separate the religions.

It seems you believe in a lot of things for which you have absolutely no evidence, and that's just one of those beliefs.

I've read many things which have fundamentally changed my thoughts and perceptions... I have a whole graveyard of beliefs which have died for lack of proof, or because of the existence of countervailing evidence, starting with my belief in Santa Claus and the Easter bunny and the tooth fairy, quickly followed by my belief in god, capitalism, democracy (as currently practiced), the evolution and perfectibility of society, the intelligence of human beings, evolution (generally) as a positive force, "efficiency" as a positive force, and a crap-ton of other beliefs that haven't withstood the test of time and experience. I hope that I'll shed even more beliefs, since I intend to keep learning for the rest of my life.

YOU, OTOH-- well, you seem like you're full of beliefs, aren't you? Have you changed a single one since you were 12? If not, then perhaps it could be said much more of you than me that it doesn't matter what YOU read (assuming you read at all!) because you seem exceptionally resistant to new ideas, even when presented with blunt facts.

Beliefs are pointless and useless. Come back when you have something other than "belief" to discuss.

What is the point of being pointlessly "diverse"? I try to understand reality, and there isn't a diversity of reality, there is only one.

Here's a lesson: Despite the common saying that you have your reality and I have mine, the universe doesn't really work that way: we live in the same reality. The only thing we differ on is our understanding of it, and whether my understanding is closer to actuality than yours or vice versa. There are a few ways to determine whose model is "better" (more congruent with reality), and since this isn't a laboratory situation where we can experiment endlessly to prove a point, we're limited to seeing whose explanations best (1) explain the greatest number of facts without being contradicted by other known facts or (2) predict future or (3) a combination.

Your "understanding" of the world, to use the term loosely, greatly depends on ignoring a vast number of facts. Since my understanding of the world explains not only the facts YOU understand, but also the facts you refuse to admit to, my understanding encompasses yours.

Also, so we don't get bolloxed up in the future, I use the word "truth" to mean "real", not "belief".

A lot of people seem to think that if they feel something deeply, it must be "true". Well, I know a lot of people who deeply feel that god is watching over them. It may be sincerely felt, but it's not necessarily referencing anything real.

When you can come to the board with something BESIDES your deeply felt opinions, you'll be a more interesting person to talk to.

It depends on what you are looking at whether it is pointless or not. If these young ladies are heading to prom then the diversity of gowns makes all the sense in the world. If this is a photo of the bride’s maids in a wedding party the diversity of gowns makes little sense. At least to me.

In other words, you think that insightful analysis is a popularity contest?

Also, you failed to understand my point about diversity. The universe is diverse. Our thinking has to be diverse enough to accommodate it. But there's no reason to introduce "diversity" for diversity's sake... that's like saying that in addition to the math teacher who explains that 2+2=4, we need to include more "diverse" opinions, like 2+2=22 and 2+2=1. That's what I meant by "pointless" diversity.

Quote:

Idiot. Our reality is the same. We live in the same universe, on the same globe, subject to the same gravity and the same laws of cause and effect. Are you saying that if you think you're Peter Pan, and if you wish hard enough, you can fly??? Hmmm... if that's the case, can I lead you to the nearest garage roof to test "your" reality? I understood what you said, and if you place a 2 on paper + or add another one 22, it does equal twenty two. If you write 2+2 = 4, it also equals the adding of two 2’s, 1 time. It all depends what it is you are trying to convey what the reality is.

It appears Steven Hawking’s disagrees with you about there being one reality and that any of us understands what that is.

“A few years ago the city council of Monza, Italy, barred pet owners from keeping goldfish in curved bowls. The measure's sponsor explained the measure in part by saying that it is cruel to keep a fish in a bowl with curved sides because, gazing out, the fish would have a distorted view of reality. But how do we know we have the true, undistorted picture of reality”?

Well, I may be mistaken on the airlifting part.

But sure as hell, they came w/ help from this WH. And no, I don't mean by a general misunderstanding, or even lax border work done, but w/ the full intent and design by the Obama admin.

This is fully manufactured, much like the Fast and Furious program, to force the issue onto the American public, and to do so in a manner which was wholly beneficial to Obama and the progressive movement.

I mean, give 'em a break, man. This is what comes as a result of freedom/the overthrow of tyranny!

What I said before about this group is posted right above. I answered an earlier post by myself predicting this.

It's really sad you can't distinguish between those who wish for a better life and completely off the wall terrorists. Besides this is the sonnies fighting the sonnies.

You are starting to remind me of this Bergdahl character who bashed America in letters home, left his post in Afghanistan and sought out the Taliban who kept him in a cage. He then made videos pleading for us to bring him home. Just someone else who can not see things for what they are.

AURAPTOR

America loves a winner!

Not that anyone cares anymore, but ISIS is on the verge of taking over a key Syrian / Turkey border town, and hundreds of civilians will likely be brutally raped, tortured and butchered.

Y'all have a great weekend !

MURSITPINAR (TURKEY): At least 500 civilians who remain trapped in the Syrian Kurdish border town of Kobani are likely to be "massacred" if it falls to the ISIS group, the UN envoy to Syria warned on Friday, calling on the world to help avert a catastrophe as the extremists pushed deeper into the embattled town.

Staffan de Mistura raised the specter of some of the worst genocides of the 20th century during a news conference in Geneva, where he held up a map of the town along the Syria-Turkey border and said a UN analysis shows only a small corridor remains open for people to enter or flee Kobani.
