Actually, we had to get therapy before hubby was officially diagnosed with Asperger's so they would give him the "good drugs". All it did was make me re-live all the crap from our marriage and all the things I can't change and just have to live with... AND THEY ARE LEGION. The drugs can't fix his messed up childhood...

Child with Asperger's, mom bi-polar JUST for starters.. I mean even when you know what the deal is and are educated in dealing with it there's no guarantee you won't raise an Adam Lanza ...and they had NO CLUE and still DON'T CARE. Just stop and consider the dynamics there. A child that's hardwired for a need for stability and logic raised by a person that couldn't conjure either of her life depended on it (not saying all bi-polars are...just HER). They moved 17 times in 18 years. He can remember each and every time he came home from school to find all his shit packed up and it's off to yet another different school, home, neighborhood... That would mess up a NORMAL kid, let alone...

Talking about how fucked up my body is and how few options I have because of it to yet another person who will never get it, while they look at the clock wondering when the session is over so they can get a Starbuck's isn't going to help my state of mind. I... have to deal with this. And annoyingly, it's one of those invisible things. I mean, when you're an amputee it's visible you have a problem and people react accordingly. Pain should glow a color or something...

Not all counselling is the same.... sometimes you have to shop around until you find someone who works well with you. Making clients relive trauma is not good counselling.

Acute stage is about 4-6 hours long followed by about 12 hours of feeling washed out. Triggers are a combination of feeling stressed, or having been stressed, alcohol, tiredness, with some hormonal component.

Any suggestions for managing them?

Medical marijuana, if you can get it. A friend I knew had real bad cluster migraines. He said it was the only thing that helped.

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

Pain should glow a color or something...

I have always wondered how others experience pain at the time they're having it. It's a word that doesn't transmit well.

SAGAN: We are releasing vast quantities of carbon dioxide, increasing the greenhouse effect. It may not take much to destabilize the Earth's climate, to convert this heaven, our only home in the cosmos, into a kind of hell.

Do you KNOW what I would give for that Empathy Gun from Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy??

Even when you try to explain to other people what is going on, you have no idea what THEIR frame of reference is. When the worst thing to have happened to a person is a skinned knee or the flu, what understanding do they have of surgery or the mentality of dealing with chronic problems?

Even the whole "relate your pain on a scale of 1-10" is so inadequate.

The people that have, for instance, severe reactions to aspirin and have their skin melt off don't have the same scale the rest of us do... Hubby knows a guy that went through a piece of machinery and literally broke every bone in his body and a couple organs. I'm glad they can keep people in comas now. o.O
