In America, you and your doctor can both agree that you need a surgery but you have to get permission from a third-party for-profit insurance company or it can't be paid for. It's called freedom.

The Left was never the “resistance.” They were always the empire. You can’t be that rich, that power, and control almost every area of American culture from Hollywood to book publishing to media to science and big tech and not be the empire. Trump’s side was the “resistance” and still is.

It feels eerily like 1984 now that the internet is ruled by a partisan cabal doing the bidding of the government. Even the Two Minutes of Hate feels like every day on Twitter or the January 6th show trials.

Here’s the plot: 97% of the world’s scientists conspire to create an imaginary environmental crisis, only to be exposed by a plucky band of billionaires, GOP senators and oil companies!

30 senators refuse to acknowledge the scientific evidence of human-caused climate change. Same 30 who refuse to acknowledge Trump lost?

Keep on bringing up all the things the voters don't give a single shit about dude.

Democrats are finished.

Oh! They don't care about climate change? What else do they not care about?

All Republican Congressmen voted to keep the minimum wage at $7.25. To raise it would un-American.

All Republican Congressmen voted to not lower gasoline prices. To lower prices would be un-American.

All Republican Judges voted to overturn Roe v Wade. Abortion is un-American.

The "left" doesn't exist in politics anymore, if it ever did.

And the DNC is not "the left"; it's as corrupt as the GOP.

Most Dems are money-grubbing toadies and corporate lick asses, just like the GOP. The only difference is which side they lick.

We don't need handouts, we need jobs and no moar war. Seen any Dems aim for that? Heck no, that would offend their donor$.

I see you never give up the idea that the top 1%, who actually have always controlled the US economy, owe everybody a job. The top 1% don't see creating jobs as their job. Who does that leave? Congress?

Small business owners create jobs, but owners won't unless the owner benefits more than the new employee does from the new job. https://www.oberlo.com/blog/small-business-statistics

Does anyone create jobs without worrying about profitability? Federal, State and local governments create jobs. But if government creates jobs, government will have to raise taxes. Voters don't like taxes. I wonder why tax-payers and voters don't love other Americans enough to pay for creating new jobs?

Maybe some rich foreign corporations will pay for new American jobs since the locals don't want to pay? Anybody like the idea of Vietnam, Korea and China opening factories in the US and closing factories in Asia? The top 1% richest Americans might find that to be too disturbing of their power to control the US economy. Small American business owners might be upset when foreign business owners drive up wages when there is full employment. They might request that their Congressman call it un-American.

MOST of the 37.1% of voters that still approve of Joe* Biden*'s job probably care a little bit.

Democrats aren't going to get any more votes than that though until they address the real problems that Americans face in 2022.

Fat chance of that happening. When they aren't outright denying that anything IS a problem, they're blaming everybody but themselves for it.

Meanwhile, they'll make sure that you've got gender neutral toy aisles, and all of those really important woke things that piss the other 62.9% of the people off.

Democrats are done.

Signym, do know Americans? They don't want to pay taxes and they sure don't want their government wasting their taxes on any other American than themselves. Because it is full of Americans, that is why Congress is as it is and why American government at all levels has malfunctioned for centuries. The good part of all that dysfunction is that Americans have been freed to be as big a success, or failure, as they want to be. The failure Americans outnumber the successful Americans by about 99 to 1, but that was their choice. Ask 6ix about success. He will tell you that he has chosen to be a huge success although his idea of what success means is not shared by other Americans.

Signym, you really know how to misdiagnose a problem. First, a personal confession: I'm a Capitalist. I'm one because America is a Capitalist system and I didn't want to end up like all the other East Texans I know who misunderstand how Capitalism works but are knee-jerk supporters of Capitalism. If only the knee-jerkers actually understood how the system works, their lives would be enriched, but they don't so they aren't enriched. By the way, my parents worked at Burger King, but my poor mother and father understood how Capitalism works. My father left close to a million to my mother in 2001. My mother had a $2.2 million estate when she died in 2014.

There is a huge amount of history about how Capitalism works in the United States, but most Congressmen and their voters misunderstand what they are reading, so it is better to pick another country that has a simpler history much harder to misunderstand because it is unfamiliar to most Americans.

That country is Haiti and the Capitalists live in Paris. Keeping the Capitalists living outside the country they are hunting makes the dynamics so much easier to understand than when the True Capitalists live inside the country (America) that is their hunting grounds for wealth:

Saint Domingue was the crown jewel of the French empire in the Caribbean when its slaves rebelled in 1791. They formed the independent republic of Haiti in 1804, but the terms of the island’s separation from France was contested long thereafter, and French reconquest loomed. In 1825, in order to secure their sovereignty, the Haitians were forced (in the words of Charles X’s decree) « to compensate the former colonists who may claim an indemnity » for the human property that had been lost. The total sum of these reparations was 150 million golden francs, which the new Caribbean nation funded through a massive loan, paid back slowly over decades. Generations of Haitians – deep into the twentieth century – contributed a significant portion of their livelihood to support the descendants of those who had kidnapped their ancestors from Africa in the hundreds of thousands and forced them to labor under genocidal conditions.

The French aristocrat and intellectual Alexis De Tocqueville is best remembered for his prophetic insights into American democracy, but in 1843 he turned his attention to Haiti. When the indemnity arrangement was again debated in France, Tocqueville declared his unqualified support for the deal, calling it « fair to all participating parties. » Not only would it compensate slaveholders for their lost property, he argued, and restore the social order that had been badly undermined by the rebellion. It would also inculcate much needed labor discipline among the emancipated population. In place of the whip, which kept things in check under slavery, a new instrument – a debt repayment schedule – would coerce the population to return to plantation work and resume sugar exports.

The agreement helped shore up the French banking system while pushing Haiti into an escalating spiral of poverty. It also exacerbated inequality within France itself, given that interest revenues from this debt were funneled into the pockets of a narrow upper-class of wealthy Parisians.

Signym, the deal with Capitalism is for clever people to persuade the not-so-clever to give them all their money. It happened in Haiti (150 million golden francs) and it is happening in America today, yesterday, and tomorrow.

The return on capital in America surpasses the rate of economic growth, which Piketty distilled into the pithy formula ‘r>g’. The gap between the return on capital and the rate of growth has powerful and destabilizing effects on the structure and dynamics of American government. This gap allows a small segment of wealth owners to gain possession of ever-growing swaths of the American economy. The only known way to stop the wealth owners is to tax their excess income, but that is forbidden by every Republican Congressman for exactly the same reason as why these Republicans won't increase the minimum wage, won't expand Medicare but will forbid abortion.

OMG, another fucking wall of bullshit that I didn't read. I understand how "capitalism" is supposed to work: approximately equal-sized businesses that provide goods and services competing in a relatively crowded field for workers and market share.

But, we don't have capitalism, son. In many sectors we lack the thing that's supposed to make capitalism work: competition. We also lack another thing essential to capitalism: Production.

Jeezus, stop being such a self-justifying tool. You were more interesting when you were quoting Thorstein Veblen.

Picking my way thru the crap you splattered on the board, SECOND...

you cite Haiti as an example of how "capitalism" works and reference, in turn: monarchism (Charles X), slavery, and financialism. None of those are capitalism.

In another post, you say that America is owned by the wealthy few (oligarchy). That, too, is not capitalism

Calling it capitalism to drum up knee-jerk support for the sick, twisted system it has morphed into is just another lie that you use to justify yourself.

ONE way to restore capitalism... NOT TAXES... is breaking apart the giant behemoths that dominate our economy. Another way to restore capitalism is to eliminate financialism and "rentier" capitalism by requiring 100% reserve lending, eliminate the Fed and place the power of currency creation back in the hands of the government, not the banks.

Please, stop lying.
