Very sorry to hear about UPN passing on Firefly guys but I saw this article which may partly explain why UPN passed on it. UPN is not doing at all well at the moment.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Oh this is definitely not good. UPN is sinking and they turn to Fox for help in bailing them out?!? That is like grabbing an anchor instead of a life vest on a sinking ship.

Great now not only will Fox flood the TV w/ reality shows, but we can expect UPN to start more of the same?

It's worse because what it says is that Fox and UPN are already 20% affiliated. Well, it says that UPN stations are affiliates of Fox Entertainment network and...what the heck does that mean? Fox owns UPN? Makes sense...but it sure is bizzare.

Chalk it up to incestuous Hollywood business dealings, I guess.

Likes to mess with stuffs.

From how I read it, FOX owns 20% of the UPN affiliates, which is the actual physical stations themselves. FOX can pull the plug and say that they no longer want their stations to have anything to do with UPN or its programming. Or putting it another way, 20% of UPN stations will go off the air, in terms of market shares, even more.

That's what is sounded like to me too, but it seemed so odd. If your interpretation is correct, UPN was stupid to allow a competitor network to have that much control over their destiny, so to speak. Essentially, if Fox wants to cut it's losses, UPN is spaced.
