From the January 15th update of the Firefly:IA website:

At this point, there is nothing further we fans can do to secure Firefly's future.

While we did not succeed in finding the show a new network, we have accomplished much.

We believe we were influential in FOX's decision to order additional scripts from Mutant Enemy.

We produced a full-page advertisement in Variety which drew media attention and showed our appreciation for Firefly's cast and crew.

We sent packages encouraging reviewers to take a second look at Firefly and showed solidarity within the fandom via the December 20th viewing parties.

The Firefly: Immediate Assistance store has raised over $500 for the Children's Miracle Network.

We've set a precedent for positive achievement, and we will continue that achievement on Saturday, January 25, when fans all over North America donate coats to service organizations in Firefly's name.

Firefly may be gone from the airwaves, but it is not forgotten.

Firefly: Immediate Assistance will remain online through October 2003 as a testament to our achievement and as a source of information about Firefly.

There it is. I realize there has been another minute update, but for all intents and purposes, the first and the primary site dedicated to saving firefly has given up. Why does this depress me almost more than Firefly's actual cancellation? Maybe it is because I don't want to be the only one still fighting. War is always lonely, but especially when you have to do it alone. And this IS war. I loved Firefly, I love Firefly. And I'm not ready to give up yet, maybe because I don't feel personally like i have done absolutely everything I can.

But reading this message on F:IA kind of made me feel like waving the white flag. Now I know how the Capt felt at the Battle of Serenity Valley. But this ISN'T over yet. Joss and Tim are still fighting, people here on this bb are still having great ideas. I am hearing a LOT of defeatist attitudes, I'm seeing a lot of ships flying away here, a lot of, Ohhh, let's watch Miracles instead. I'm not ready to do that. This isn't just even about Firefly anymore. This is about Brimstone, and Dark Skies, and American Gothic, and Prey, and all the other shoes I loved that didn't get a fair shot because any tv show now has to be geared towards undersexed, violence-numbed morons with the IQ's of boiled cabbage for it to be a success. I want to fight that too. I want Firefly to come back not just because it is a truly brilliant, fascinating show, but so just once, we, us, people like us, the fans, can win.

Wow....that was sort of a rant. I don't really know how to end it now. Just let me know i'm not the only one who still thinks we have a shot at saving this show.

I have stated recently that I more or less have given up at this time. Now dont get me wrong, I love this show. But its just that if I constantly fight and fight and nothing good turns up than it will just be even more hard to get over it.

Now if in the future if there is a good looking chance that this show will live on, than I will be doing the best that I can to help fight!

But for all you who haven't given up, keep fighting!

With fox admiting they screwed up, there actually is a slight chance of them reconsidering it again...at least I like to think so.

I know it's written tersely and thus sounds like all is lost but I think Kiba just means that, whatever plan is being worked on, it will not be affected by what we do. I like to think that ME is already doing wheelings and dealings over straight to DVD or Showtime or syndication and it's pretty much a done deal. They just have to work out that deal and we don't have any affect on that. That's the only way I can think of it or I'd be too sad.

Yeah, that sounds like all Kiba's saying. Things are still in the works, there's no reason to give up, it's just that there's nothing the fans can do at this point to help. It's a hard position to be in, sitting and waiting, knowing that you're powerless over something that means so much to you. But, that's life.

BROWNCOAT1

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

You are most definitely not alone. Nor should you feel the need to "wave the white flag". There are still a great many fans fighting to get Firefly back on the air. Just this past weekend we had the "Browncoat Drive" that Shell from Firefly Immediate Assistance organized. I cooridinated the Richmond, VA drive and we collected dozens of coats to donate to charity in the name of Firefly fans everywhere. We hope this will give the Firefly community some attention and by proxy, the show itself.

Don't lose hope, so long as Joss & Tim are still fighting, so are we.
