"According to The Hollywood Reporter, A Knight's Tale star Alan Tudyk is ready to follow in the footsteps of Andy Serkis and the CGI creation Gollum from The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers".

"Tudyk has been cast as the animation reference for the CGI character Sonny opposite Will Smith in the sci-fi actioner I, Robot for 20th Century Fox and director Alex Proyas. Shooting is to begin in May on the project".

"The film, inspired by the classic story collection by Isaac Asimov, is a futuristic thriller in which a detective (Smith) investigates a crime that may have been perpetrated by a robot (Tudyk), even though the three prevailing laws of the robot society suggest that such a crime is impossible".

"Like Serkis in "Two Towers," Tudyk and his actions, facial expressions and mannerisms will be CGI-enhanced to create the robot, giving him a humanistic feel that is an essential part of the story line".

"The other lead role is that of a female robot therapist, which has yet to be cast. The film was written by Jeff Vintar, Hillary Seitz and Akiva Goldsman".

Very interesting. He seems to make movies with more and more famous co-stars every time.

This could be tremendously cool.

"Columnists Marilyn Beck and Stacy Jenel Smith report that 20th Century Fox is currently looking for Will Smith's co-star in I, Robot, based on nine Isaac Asimov short stories in which a detective investigates a crime that may have been done by a robot.

The duo say that pans call for the actor, who'll portray the mechanical man, to actually act on set with Will for six months. However, because he'll be replaced by a CGI robot, his face will never be seen on screen. Sounds much like Gollum in "Lord of the Rings".

The actor will be between 5-foot-11 and 6 feet tall, in his 20s or 30s, muscular, but not too muscular, ethereal, soft-spoken, gentle but strong, thoughtful, kind and obedient. They want to capture his movement and soul - just not him and his real voice may or may not be used."

I'm going to go swoon a lot now. Although, I don't think I would have called him "ethereal." To me, Michael Jackson is ethereal (also scary!) but semi-muscular, tallish, gentle, strong, thoughtful. Yes, he is all these things.

This is wonderful news. It's always good to hear that the actors are not only getting work, but GOOD work. Besides, the more successful the actors become, the more powerful they become, and the more likely they'll be in a position to screw Fox over some day... Ok, not a likely scenario, but in my twisted mind, everything comes down to finding new ways to give Fox the big Fk You!

This is an excellent story, I'm looking forward to seeing what is done with in on the big screen. BBC television filmed it many years ago and it got me hooked on Asimov.

Is Tudyk playing R Daneel Olivaw, I believe that is his name. This robot helps the detective in his enquiries.

The three laws of Robotics are actually in use.

Congratulations to Alan he and the rest of the fabulous Firefly cast deserve to do well.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Glad to see Alan has gotten work, but this movie does not really sound like my type of thing. I will catch it on video when it hits the shelves, but I will pass on the theatre.

Tudyk is playing the robot "Sonny."

Although "I, Robot" incorporates a number of plot elements from "The Caves of Steel" it is more of an Asimov patische in general and is not a literal adaptation of "Caves."
