I saw the bdm in Vegas a little while back with Succatash. Great flick! But I had a question... a few actually, but I will only address one here.

I need to know what's up with Simon. At the beginning of the movie there was a spectacular scene (with great effects) in which Simon rescues River from the Alliance School. This seems to contradict a lot of the info presented in the series. Why did he rescue her? Wasn't it supposed to be an underground group doing that? Doesn't that make the "Ariel" episode kind of pointless? Doesn't that also make Simon a liar?

Inara: Who's winning?
Simon: I can't really tell, they don't seem to be playing by any civilized rules that I know.

HASUFEL

ZOE: How did you do it?
SIMON: Money. And, and luck. For two years, I couldn't get near her. Then I was contacted by some men, some underground movement. They-they said she was in danger, that-that the government was... playing with her brain. If I funded them they could sneak her out in cryo. Get her to Persephone, and from there, I could take her... wherever.

Simon says what the "men" told him, but doesn't go into the details of how the operation was actually carried out. Doesn't have to be a contradiction. Or at least I can rationalize around one.

PURPLEBELLY

If I was a fugitive from the Law, facing a bunch of petty crooks with the power of life or death over me and my beloved sister, I think I would tell them a version of the truth that best suited my purposes. Call me a liar

Even though you've got *Spoiler* in the title, might ya want to hide the relevent parts in spoiler form ?

And it is a good question, as I've seen the BDM as well. And I think the particulars are explained rather well, imo.

" They don't like it when you shoot at 'em. I worked that out myself. "
