Ok folks, here's how the game works. Everyone call a few local stores not already listed in this thread and ask if they have the Firefly DVDs. Post here if they are sold out.

Why?

1. It boosts the perceived demand for the DVDs by local store management, which can lead to increased orders (and therefore sales)

2. It helps others who are having a hard time trying to find the DVDs locally.

3. It's fun! :)

Here's my list so far:

well--I didn't call the store, but when I was at the Seattle Best Buy and asked one of their employees if they had it, his response was: "I don't even need to go check in the back. We're sold out. People keep asking me about that one--we're definitely sold out."

America loves a winner!

I checked at least 4 different stores here in Atlanta before I gave up and just ordered it from Amazon. Got here in just over a week, didn't have to pay for shipping either. The last place I tried - Media Play - , one of the managers told me it was tough to keep those in the store. Seems they sell out as soon as they come in. So, it wasn't just the perception that Firefly was in high demand. Thanks Amazon.com

Before Christmas, Firely was not to be found in any of these places I looked. A few of these I tried multiple locations.
*Blockbuster
*Best Buys
*Media Play
*Circuit City
*Target
*WalMart

yeah I tried Best Buy, Walmart, Circuit City, and Blockbuster. I finally found a copy a Border's Bookstore in Atlanta.

So be sure to look anywhere they sell DVDs

My local Best Buy sold out the same day it got released and they haven't been able to keep it in stock since. You have to order it if you want it.

I've seen it in a couple of other big name stores (Future Shop, HMV, WalMart etc...) but only in very few numbers and not usually for long.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

The local Target sold out by 12/16. They never restocked it. Of course when I went in w/ a print off of the Amazon site and showed it to the manager, she ordered 6 more copies. I told her to hold one for me (which I will leave in the wrap in case something goes wrong w/ my current set), and that I bet her the other 5 would be gone inside of two weeks.

The local Wal Mart has to keep reordering them. For some odd reason they will only order 4 at a time and those sell within a week & they are out for 1 - 2 weeks while they wait on reorder.

The local Suncoast at the mall has 2 copies left on the shelf, and are selling them for $34.99 on sale. They have a regular retail of $49.99 on them.

My sister in law tried to get it at Media Play in Fargo this last weekend but they were sold out. She has since ordered from Amazon and is anxiously awaiting it's arrival so she can spread the greatness of Firefly around campus.

For Christmas, I'd ordered mine through Amazon (LOVE those guys), as the Best Buy closest to my house was sold out. Last week when we went on the search to buy a copy for some friends, the 2 Best Buys closest were sold out. Luckily, we found it at one farther north in the city, which had around 8-10 copies on the shelf (that particular part of the city is not really Firefly proactive). Thank goodness we found it! Our friend was having surgery that day, and is now recuperating at home with his own set.

My brother bought a copy for me for Christmas from a local store in DFW called Movie Trading Co.

I went the next day after he bought it and another shiny copy was sitting on the shelves.

I will ask the employees if it selling well.

XIAODING

Here's how things are doing in Ottawa.

Best Buy--No copies on the shelf. Employee explained that Firefly is so popular, not only has the store run out of DVDs but so has the central warehouse in Toronto. Had no idea when they would be getting more. "Good show," he added.

Music World--No copies on the shelf. Employee said they had trouble even getting any for Christmas, and these immediately sold out. They are re-ordering.

Future Shop--One copy languishing at the bottom of the 'assorted DVDs' shelf. I helpfully moved it to eye level, displacing a worthless Friends box set. Went back the next day and it was gone. Employee confirmed that they are all sold out of Firefly and will have to order more.

HMV--Saw a couple of copies in the alphabetical listing, behind Frasier. Moved these ahead of Frasier (just to keep with the front to back alphabetical scheme evident in the rest of the store you understand), when I looked up..... there were a good SEVEN OR EIGHT FIREFLY DVDS on a special BEST-SELLERS SHELF! They had a shelf to themselves, alongside the Simpsons and Friends.

That's what I like to see.

Okay. . .six of us intentionally spaced our visits to the Kandahar PX out about 30 minutes apart. The last guy to go in and ask the manager about the Firefly DVDs reports that the response was:

"NO, we don't have any more. . .YES we have more on order! We can only get the damn things in so fast, and they sell out as soon as they're on the shelf!!!!"

So. . .add Kandahar PX to the list.

"Wash. . .we got some local color happening. A grand entrance would not go amiss."

Try Borders. I found my copy there with no problem. They seemed to have a few copies on the shelves.

They can have my "Firefly" DVDs when they pry them from my cold, dead fingers....
