I found this on the Futon Critic:

HOLLYWOOD DIVISION (FOX) - Nathan Fillion ("Firefly") has been tapped to replace Matthew Settle as Det. Tommy Garrett in the drama pilot, which revolves around young detectives who infiltrate a Hollywood high school as well as go undercover inside the seedy side of young show business. James Foley ("At Close Range") has also come on board to direct the pilot, which comes from Universal Television and executive producers Barry Schindel ("Robbery Homicide Division") and Rob Port ("10-8").

THUNDAR

OH BOY! A rehash of 21 Jump Street.

$%^#&^&*# Moron's. They're always rehashing the old stuff and killing off the new and different. How long till we get another Gilligan's Island. Oh wait.. Survivor did that.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Fox? That is just a might unsettling isn't it? Guess NBC gave up trying to find something for him since Alligator Point was not picked up.

Wish him the best of luck, just hope that he has time to do the movie.

GWEILO

I knew I vaguely recognized Fillion from somewhere when I first saw him in Firefly. Since I couldn't quite pin it down I turned to good ol' IMDB and looked at his filmography. Nothing there seemed to fully explain why I knew him. His appearance in "Dracula" perhaps...? I shrugged it off and thought no more about it until today when I flipped through channels and happened on Fillion shouting and carrying on in his best cap'n Mal manner. The show: Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place.

Who would have thought? I'd only seen half an episode of that show before but now that I saw it again it became very clear that's where I knew him from. He made an impression even then.

What's my point? Nathan was MADE for playing Mal. There's this quote by Arnold (back in his "Conan the Barbarian" days) where he says: "There is always one role that every actor is born for.". I never thought I'd say this, but Arnie has a point there. Although I look forward to seeing more of Nathan - there will never be another Mal. That was such a good part!
