What if River did.... "grapple"?

For some reason, I was thinking about that scene where Early asks if River ever "grappled with any of the crew?" Obviously he's got some kind of insight similar to River so maybe it's true. My question is, if it were true, who would it have been?

The first obvious choice would be Jayne, especially with his "not all of her has to be" scene from Serinity.

But I had another thought, since there obviously more to Book than meets the eye, what about him? I know it's damn unlikely because he's old enough to be her granpa probably, but waddya all think?

I would go with Book over Jayne. They had been "developing a raport" - Plus, she's already taken to Jayne with a chef's knife, and knows he sold her out. Not someone you'd wanna grapple with...

Astriana has a good point. The whole butcher knife, and betrayal on Ariel thing would kill any chance of Jayne and River grappling. There is also the fact that River creeps Jayne out. Just watch his facial expressions whenever they discuss River, they range from anger to fear.

If I had to say one person, I would say Book would be the most likely candidate, but I doubt it would ever happen. Book tells Jayne in OiS that he does not grapple (not in so many words) and there is his speech about taking advantage of a woman to Mal in OMR.

It wouldn't be with anyone on Serenity. She would have a one episode romance on some planet somewhere, and keep it to herself, at least until she got her brother off-planet. Simon might not be a fighter, but when it comes to his sister, he is likely to pound someone into the ground if he felt they took advantage.

Honestly, I'd think if she "grappled" with anyone on Serenity, it would be... Kaylee. I don't believe any of the men would qualify.

Mal-Too honorable, and probably too wierded out by the idea anyway.
Wash-Too married, possibly too honorable as well.
Book-Too shepherd-y.
Jayne-Too... Jayne.
Simon-Too related.

I don't think she's close enough, emotionally speaking, to Inara or Zoe. I believe Kaylee's got a pretty open mind when it comes to sex and, while she's not what I would describe as promiscuous, I'd say she has no problem with an occasional stress-relieving roll in the hay, with a male or female partner. Of course, the circumstances would have to be just so (a little alcohol and no Simon around), and it would probably only happen once...

Then again, I'm probably just lost in my little fantasy world.

Well, some believe the butchers knife had only to do with the Blue Sun logo, so I'm going to rule that out, for my arguments. I dunno though, I think it could possibly be Jayne. The facial expressions could just be from general nervousness that the rest of the crew would find out. Something tell me if River came into Jayne's quarted and started to seduce him, he probably wouldn't put up much of a fight, and something like that would increase his "nervousness" of her. He wouldn't want the rest of the crew to know, because they'd think he took advantage of her, which make him feel guilty when she's around too.

I'm fairly certain that of any of the crew sleeping with any of the other crew -- River is the least likley.

Aside from that - Joss would tell us. :) He'd make us agonize over it!

I think it's fairly obvious that River isn't sleeping with anyone.

But if I have to play "what if?" - it would have to be Kaylee.

I don't think River ever "grappled" with anyone, but if she had, my vote is for Jayne. Mostly due to the process of elimination. Mal likes Inara, Wash is with Zoe, Kaylee likes Simon, Simon's her brother, and I've always seen Book as more of a father figure than anything else. So I go with Jayne.

Besides, I always thought Jayne and River would end up together anyway. Don't rightly know why, it just seemed to me that's where the series was headed in regards to those two.
