That you really suck at getting things done. I have to be honest in that I have only recently been exposed to the genius that is firefly, and am immediately passionate about getting it back on the air, but you all have taken the wrong route since day 1. I am not trying to be insulting but this is the 21st century, and people (especially corporations) no longer respond to or acknowledge letters, protests, nor petitions. What owns our country at least at the moment is viral media. If we want the best sci-fi show ever made to return to television we have to conform to these tacticts. I understand this is alot to ask of all of you but in the end the monetary expense will be worth it... if not the jail time. Who amongst us does not own the DVDs of the whole series and the film? That is 5 discs in total.
Here is my proposal... we copy them, give Fox a big kick in the nuts and send them out with a poignant letter.... something along the lines of it you love this series write a letter/email or if you don't pass it on to someone who loves sci-fi. Amazingly I had never been exposed to this series when it was being produced but I love it now, i guarantee we can find many others like me. Viral marketing runs the world now and we can take advantage of antiquated systems like the USPO to market our love for Firefly. DVDs are cheap... postage is cheap... lawyers are expensive but so it proving that we sent out our illegal copies :) Look into AnyDVD CloneDVD and similar software. I'll handle central CA. Who will handle the rest of the country?

What the hell have you been smokin' son? Look sunshine, ripping off a corp is not the best way of doing anything other than going to jail. Ya dont mess with someone elses money... PERIOD. Universal has already threatened to sue someone on this forum over copyright infringement.

And they dont have to find the person who made the viral, just the knuckleheads dumb enough to download it. Great way to spread the word... "Avoid downloading anything to do with Firefly, its been tagged".

As far as the wrong approach, there is so much an organization of people can do against the movie and TV industry (that wont potentially land you in jail). Corporations make money from commercial advertisements, not from shows. Companies pay big $$$ for prime time spots, little $ for non-popular periods. You want to take money from a Fox/Universal? Form a huge organization and publically ban all products shown on those stations. As far fetched as that sounds, that is probably the most you could do to hurt them without getting arrested.

BTW, next time you publically suggest a group of people participate in an illegal activity, be over the age of 18 so that you can partake in the fruits of your ideas.

Dude your so wrong, but seriously yes in this day and age they don't notice letters, ect so much but proved time and again even now it still happens.

Just look at Farscape:Peacekeeper Wars & more recently Bablyon 5 on straight to DVD & its been ages since Babylon 5 finished so we should never give up cause you never know when they'll turn around and say hey lets make a Serenity sequel or a 2nd season Firefly season.

If we give up then there is no chance in hell of a Serenity sequel or another Firefly season so we need to keep doing all these pertions, letters, ect till Joss Wheldon dies & the rest of the cast dies & Universal go bankrupt.

And lets see if we gave up on Serenity & Firefly when Serenity didn't do very well at the BOX OFFICE then we wouldn't have another Serenity comic, Firefly MMORPG, or the countless replica's and all the other merchandise coming out after Serenity came out.

First of all, welcome to the board hun, secondly I love your enthusiasm but you are incorrect.

It was because of the Firefly DVd's amazing sales that we even got Serenity. How many people on this very board can say they bought Firefly blindly after seeing its incredible sales and positive feedback on Amazon.com or saw it in a store and saw someone stocking up on Firefly for Christmas?

Viral marketing is good and has its place, even within our browncoat fandom, look at the River Tam Sessions. But a massive drop in sales due to high amounts of Pirated copies of our show would only hurt us.

Again I appreciate your passion and thoughts on how to bring this show back, but it would not work, in the end it would backfire and hurt us greatly.

One of the best ways to bring more people to the 'verse is to stage viewing parties, give legally purchased copies as gifts to friends and family.

Again welcome to the board, and its great to see such enthusiasm but I think you need to direct your energies in a different and more legal route.

Ok, now that we've recognized your inability to spell...

Coming onto a board and for your first post broaching something that is

a) illegal
b) immoral
c) downright stupid

really isn't the way to go through life, hon.

Artcat, you're always so nice...

You are more than welcome to post your thoughts and feelings on Firefly. We welcome the chance to interact with you.

You may not have been around, but it was the Browncoats and our devotion to the show that helped get Serenity made. We keep it alive through boards like this one. Boards filled with interaction, discussion, and perseverance.

If you have something more constructive to bring, by all means. Post it under guerilla marketing. We'd love to hear from you.

There is the little fact of Firefly and Serenity retaining high rankings on Amazon DVDs for a very long time. No other show or movie has done that well for so long.

Firefly is today at 72. Not bad for a short lived series canceled 5 years ago.

Serenity is at 216. Not quite as well, but I expect people are waiting for the Special Edition to come out.

Compare Serenity to the top 10 grossing films of 2005

1. Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (#121)
2. The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (#586)
3. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (#477)
4. War of the Worlds (#425)
5. King Kong (#1,678)
6. Wedding Crashers (#804)
7. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (#3,190)
8. Batman Begins (#696)
9. Madagascar (#758)
10. Mr. & Mrs. Smith (#1,564)

Only 'Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith' beats Serenity in DVD sales, but is still ranked lower than the Firefly series set.

I think the Browncoat community is still doing a good job of supporting Firefly, Serenity and the 'verse.

Even so, I won't steal from the BDH's either, and I wouldn't encourage others to.

I think cache has a point. A very good one at that. More movies are downloaded from torrents every day. I just got Serenity HD last week. The file was huge and took some time, however it took minutes to burn 12 copies. I sold 5 of them and gave the other 7 away to friends. Maybe they will buy FF, maybe not. As far as there being anything we can do to get new eps....nothing, never going to happen. So I steal it and spread the joy that is FF....And I make a couple bucks for my troubles......God I love Bit torrent!

You are a film distributor. You make money from selling your films.

You steal from the studios that make the films. They don't get a cut of what you make. Neither do the actors.

You are a thief and nothing you say changes that. If this behavior were the norm, NO films would be made.

These folk have done the impossible- they took the Bull by the Horns and made it steer their way. I know not any other what's done that with so little; thirteen episodes, and they got a movie outta it.

Kaneman,

Why are you trying to generalize this topic and compare your "profit from theft" to non-quantitative sales figures related to internet downloads.

Stop trying to act like your some genius pirate and "poo" on anyone else who thinks that the normal avenue of purchasing media is as archaic as papyrus.

Fact is... most people probably know that these pirated channels exist. They just know that using them and promoting them MAY HAVE a detrimental effect on the show’s future success. (As related to Firefly and Firefly ONLY! Since u get upset when someone mentions things other than Firefly, not the music industry, etc.)

It is very true that the media and distribution companies need to get better at this game. Then again, they don't owe us anything for this particular show. Stop acting like it. Oh "Boo Hoo"... I'll show them, I am a genius pirate.

My buddy is a Mod on one of the largest "free music trading" sites. People like you are their worst enemy. Grab something free from the peer-to-peer network and sell it for profit. THE WORST! Threatens their very existence.

If u love the show as much as you have said in the past. Stop stealing from it. Is this what they taught you in Tunisia? I can handle the best of trolls, just don’t come on here and promote crime.

…and Causal,

They are prolly not “New”.

Wow spell flames aside, You are all missing
the point. I am not talking about posting
episodes of firefly on the internet. It has
already been done to literally no effect.

What I am talking about is delivering this
goodness directly into the hands of those
who would probably never be exposed to
Firefly much less purchase the DVDs themselves.
I guess instead of saying USPO I should say
United States Post Office so more people
might ken what I am saying.

Did we also miss the part about the poignant
letter? One that if coming from me would
probably contain a line some where that states
"If you like this BUY it" The whole point is
to drive up DVD sales, not destroy them.

As time goes on more of you "browncoats" will
turn to different endeavors. The chance of
this show ever being revived wanes each day,
and nothing short of a miracle will bring it
back. I for one would like to see that miracle
happen. Not just for my own enjoyment which
would be great, but for the actors who gave us
such brilliant performances. It is they who
suffer the most. Watch the interviews again.

This probably would of been more effective when Firefly was just released. This far out, not much would be accomplished.

Unless of course you were trying to pressure Fox into releasing the rights to Firefly so that someone else could produce it. Now that could work since it doesnt look like Fox is doing anything with Firefly and may say its more trouble than its worth. However, there would still be that nagging issue of who will pickup Firefly, spend the money to make it, and then air it...

With a couple of tweeks, I wondered if HBO would of picked it up. As much as I like Firefly, I am not sure its HBO's style. Though, if they made Firefly like they did Serenity, a premium channel might actually buy off on it.

What you are talking about is theft. Many have made that point.

And FOX does not own the rights to Firefly. 20th Century Fox owns the rights to produce, but FOX gave up the rights when they cancelled it and Joss asked for them back, which is how he was able to shop it around and have the movie made. Now Universal has the rights to make movies, and it won't go back to the small screen for as long as they have those rights. Unless, perhaps, they decide to make it a Sci-Fi series, since Universal owns Sci-Fi, but I'm not sure they can do that, either.
I would love to see a miniseries on HBO, or Sci-Fi channel. I would love to see Serenity 2. I would love to see the Big Damn Heroes on the screen again. The ONLY WAY that will happen is with enough sales. Serenity Special Edition is coming out this summer. We will all buy it. We will give away our old copies of the movie to spread the signal. We will buy more copies as gifts. It will be shiny.

I wasnt aware Fox was out of the loop on this. I thought the Firefly/Serenity rights were split. Fox still had rights to Firefly the TV series and Universal had rights to the Serenity movie (series?). Learn something new each day.

Anywho, increasing sales is cool and all and very well could get Serenity 2 produced. However, I'm leaning more toward bringing back the TV series myself. Mainly because it see it surviving longer (I dont think 4 seasons would be out of the question, if they were shown in the proper order [img][/img] ). Also, Wash and Shepard live

As for bring the series back... hell, we need to talk to the Family Guy groups and find out how they did it. I remember Family Guy when it came out and it hasnt changed much.

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

FOX still has the rights to the episodes that were already shot, hence why sci-fi had to buy the rights to show them, but that's different.
And I would love to see the series back on the air more than anything, but I'll take what I can get, and realistically I'm more likely to get another movie. Even Joss has said that the BDHs are not likely to be on the small screen again after being on the big screen.
One thing to consider in that is that FOX does, in fact, have a talent-holding deal with Nathan Fillion. From what I understand, it means he can only make small-screen series on their network. Joss will not work with FOX again, and so the show coming back, if for no other reason than that, is not likely.

Does it hurt to be so puritanical? I'd imagine
the stick to be quite painful. We are talking
about a show where the protagonists are basicly
pirates and you take the high ground when I
mention copying the DVDs as a method to induce
others to purchase them? You could cut that
irony with a knife.

Arguments aside the Sci-Fi channel is exactly the
target we should be looking at. They have proven
their willingness to support good shows for the
long haul (SG-1), I am only confused as to why
they didn't pick it up in the first place when
FOX released the rights. I just doesn't make
sense, purhaps they could not afford it at the
time. In any case bringing Firefly back to TV
would mean a huge influx of cash for the network,
in turn allowing them to produce even more
excellent television. Smart moves all around,
just wish there was a better way to get the execs
to see the light.

We should have 80 episodes to choose from, not 14
It is a truly sad thing.

Urgh morons make my head hurt...

Cache - Try buying many copies of the series and sending it to all your friends(oops you dont have any coz you stole their stuff and sold it). That is how the original browncoats got the movie made and many of us still do this.

Browncoats bought 250,000 copies in like 2-3 weeks and Universal went "OMFG f*x seriously sux if they let these numbers slip through their fingers" and went and made the BDM.

Kane - I think I like you less than cache...and I know thats a stretch. See my above comments about buying the DVD's. What I hear from you is "im a thief and I download torrents and distribute them illegally for a profit because I dont have any education and therefore cant get a job". Maybe if all you thieves that have the pirate HD version went and got jobs so you could buy the orig HD copy Universal might notice the huge sales and contemplate a sequel.

Urghh...my head hurts....

livebrown,

Maybe many of the people that first see FF on a bootleg end up liking it and go out and by the series(instead of downloading 12G of files).

Cache,

but we have had an effect, however you found Serenity and or Firefly it is either as a direct or indirect result of browncoats actions. In the end no matter how wrong you and Kaneman think we are for using the avenues we have, the point is you Have heard of Firefly.

Also please keep in mind when you are stealing and copying the shows, you are hurting the branch of fox that RELEASED Firefly to us, it is a seperate entity from the Fox that cancelled us.

Browncoats are the shiniest folks in the 'verse

I think nearly everybody does use torrents but I myself will use a torrent only to get a few appications or maybe even the odd Lost episode since I don't have cable,Sky, or any digital channels at home but I could never download movies & then distribute them to friends and family let alone even download movies and I would never ever in a million years do it with Firefly or Serenity.

Want pics, vids, and ringtones related to Firefly or Serenity get them here...
