OK...I'm trying to be optimistic, But my foresight is leading me to one conclusion...DRIVE gets the axe within 6 months.

1) Its on FOX
2) Its on in a KILLER timeslot, This sounds good, but guess what kiddies, Prisonbreak is coming back in a few months...I'll let you guess which one gets moved.
3) Its edgy, and just funny enough...America wont "get-it"
4) The numbers are kind of soft
5) FOX hasnt really gotten behind it since its launched
6) Its on FOX

I like the show, Love our captain, and get a boner for the 1970 HEMI Challenger. which means I'll be buying a 14 episode box set of "The complete series" next year.

However...I'm still crossing my fingers

Apparently the boys at Fox are only interested in running three shows every damn night of the week; those being 24, American Idol, and House. Clearly there isn't room anywhere for another series.

I agree with you about the Challenger. It made my day seeing the 426 insignia on the hood. Listening to 'Holmes' boast about his car being a monster had me laughing just as Alex pulled up next to him.

now that one I just don't get. I saw A LOT of ads for Drive before it premeired, they showed 3 episodes the first week, and have been advertising not only the new episodes, but the first 3 being up on Myspace.

Unless your version of getting "behind the show" is to throw every single advertising dollar and every second of ad space to one show, that just doesn't make sense.

First off "America won't get-it" HAHAHA good one.
Secondily, I have yet to see one commerical for Drive. I only know of its existance through you lovely people. But yes that would be horrible if another show involving our captain went down...though that would open up his schedule for another firefly...:P

I worry about it for one big reason.
My husband. He hates Drive.

Thinks its a silly show, with a silly premise, and can't suspend disbelief long enough to watch.

I wonder if non-Minear like persons such as himself feel the same way.
I worry that its folks like him who will doom the show.

I like it, I watch it...but must admit that if El Capitan weren't on it...I don't know if I'd be watching.

It's actually a pretty good timeslot, leading into 24? Prison Break did well, and because it's already ended it's season, Drive doesn't need to worry about being kicked out by it.

Drive's interesting, and it's great seeing our captain again, but I'm starting to loose some interest in the show, mainly because most of the peripheral characters, pretty much everyone but Tully, are really beginning to get on my nerves. The mother is irritating, the blond chick that she's with is just as annoying. There's some interesting people there, but hopefully, it won't get predictable and boring. I guess we'll see.

That and there are only like 4 more episodes of 24 left so that doesn't really matter. But didn't I hear someplace that Drive was only going to show the first 6 or 7 episodes then go on a break anyways?

And it has a good time slot. It is going up against a couple of 1/2 hour comedies, Deal or No Deal, and Dancing With The Stars.

The real question is how well was Fox expecting it to do, and how low are the lowest ratings that Drive can receive before Fox sees it as a liability?

The only reason Drive is doomed (it's already basically canceled folks - uhm, sorry) is because people aren't watchin' it. Basically that simple.

Yes, last nights ep was VERY good. The show needs to find it's audience. Everyone that I have dragged to the TV to watch it has walked away saying it's "not bad". If they wanted to get more folks on board they should be running the previous episodes in "crap" time slots over and over. A show like this is hard to follow when you have no clue why the characters are doing what they are doing.

Typical F*X blundering by not investing in a property while it going. Stay tuned for Desperate Penguins Dancing with former Child Actors Addicted to bad Reality TV.

I don't know anything about cars and can't tell a '70 from a '75 but the show really took off when Alex (Nathan Fillion) got that car.

I admit it was a bit ho hum for the first 2 episodes and mainly saw it because of Nathan and Tim but they really have the show in gear now (pun intended). My mouth was hanging open in disbelief at the end of the 4th episode.

I just hope and pray that we get more than the 6 episodes already made.

I definitely felt the rush when Alex was tearing up the road in that car. But at the same time I was thinking: okay he's one of the two most strongly motivated characters, he's the best driver, and he's got the fastest car. It doesn't seem like much of a competition.

And yeah, I know, there are going to be twists and turns and things will change. That's part of the show's appeal. I'll just have to keep watching and hope the show doesn't get all formulaic with each episode finding some new way to keep Alex from running away with things.

It is good to see the captain, yes.
But that is about it. Drive just doesnt do it for me, I am not excited at all about episode 5. It is a good time consumer and I will problaly watch the rest, mostly cause of Filliboy, but it has to improve a lot for me to rewatch it. Never been a car person, though. The more tv I see, the more I realize how much pearly goodness Firefly is. Tears and heartbleeding.

TWITCH

Yeah, no kidding. We had it good with Firefly. Damn to get lost in thoughts of what might've been. What kills me the most is there are all these stories I'll never get to experience. Crap...

But back to Drive. I'm watching it. I don't think it has the breadth of characters Firefly had, but I'm cutting it slack for the moment. (Hey, every time I loan out my Firefly DVDs, I make a point of telling people to give the pilot more than 15 minutes. "It's not a war flick! Serious!")

Wendy, the mom, is actually one of my favorite characters. Not 'cause she's a moooom, but because of her odd breaks of character, like when her partner tries to remove the child seat from the car. For a brief moment there's this fissure into a neurosis that could easily get violently explosive later in the show. And sure 'nuff, last night's episode has her pulling this suicide maneuver into oncoming traffic to turn her van around and go where she now decides she needs to be going. Nuts to everyone around her, but to her it made perfect sense. Once you start having a character like that, they tend to start doing all SORTS of stuff that "just make sense" to THEM. (Hmmm... overtones to River?)

I'm a lot less taken with some of the other characters. I'm curious what kind of salvage job is going to be done on the army guy and his wife. No phone, and he's driving into a court martial. It was interesting to see, though, that the writers aren't dropping into the normal TV show pattern of "must save all characters at all cost". (And who would've expected such from the likes of Tim Minear, anyway?) One down and one with a gunshot wound to the gut? After writing for Dr. Tam, Tim Minear surely knows enough about septicemia to come up with something truly nasty for the next episode.

It'd be lame if it was already canceled, as has already been pointed out. But I could believe it. I'm enjoying the show, and I'm looking forward to seeing what people are willing to do for whatever they think the end of the rainbow holds for them. It'd piss me off to miss out now.

sorry...heres the 1972. IMO Kinda clunky and matronly when compared to the 70 & 71...those are some prime examples of what a muscle car should look like

...I think I may be one of those people. I love Tim Minear, though. Just not this show.

Way I see it, it's a so-so excuse to have a season-long car chase. The majority of the characters fall a little flat, and even if they didn't, spending a large amount of time watching people talking back and forth inside their cars just isn't all that interesting.

Nonetheless, I turn on my (friend's) TV and pretend to watch every week, in hopes that it will do some good.

Ditto the Firefly goodness. My husband, who likes the show but does not share my obsession, said Drive was no Firefly. Nevertheless, I like it better than most stuff on TV. I get sucked in by reality shows if I'm flipping but refuse to watch on a regular basis.

Of course I love Tully's character and moral ambiguity. The little smirk as he passed the brothers was gorgeous.

I also really like post-partum Wendy. I loved her on 2 & 1/2 Men and she shows the same flashes of work-at-day insanity here. Can't wait to see how she develops.

It's an enjoyable show with some of the charm of early Lost and Prison Break, but a little more lightweight. Although Tully is entertaining, I find myself constantly turning to my girlfriend and saying "Why didn't they just call him Mal?" (Since someone else was originally cast and they reshot the pilot with Fillion, I'm curious how much of this was in the original version).

Last night, I hit on a drinking game idea: take a shot whenever Tully uses a Mal line, or whenever the criminal (don't remember his name) calls anyone "homes" (double if it's his brother).

Has anyone mentioned the curse of Tim Minear yet? Firefly, WonderFalls, The Inside, Drive... See the pattern? (Speaking of which, anyone know if The Inside is ever coming out on DVD? Or where I might be able to, ahem, acquire the unaired episodes? They killed that show just as it was really getting good).

Actually, GWEK...Tim Minear kind of wrote the character of Alex Tully for Nathan, but since Our Man Fillion was off shooting White Noise 2 or Waitress at the time of the original pilot's filming, he had to use another lead (Ivan Sergei in this case). Nathan finally got the role when they re-shot the pilot and Nathan was free to take on the role of Tully.
