So. . .we had a little 'down time' today, and someone had picked up at the PX a DVD set, "Barney Miller, Season One". . .a 70's TV Sitcom about a handful of detectives in NYC, and it featured our favorite sheperd, Ron Glass.

Kinda funny to see him all 'afro'd' and such. . .and wow. . .he's aged well. . .but we're all sitting there, watching quietly. . .laughing at the jokes and such. . .

Out of the blue, one of my comrades says, "Well. . .know we know how a Sheperd knows so much about crime."

Oh kids, Barney Miller is certainly one of the funniest sitcoms of the seventies! If you weren't lucky enough to have seen it when it was originally on (I did and I'm only 35), please catch the reruns on TVLand or DVD. Ron Glass and the whole cast is a hoot! I think I've yet to see a sitcom as funny including Seinfeld and Friends.

I remember Barney Miller, loved that show. Funny thing is, when I watched Firefly I recognized the name, and the face looked vaguely familiar, but I couldn't remember from where. It wasn't until I saw the "Love Boat" parody in the Gag Reel that I recognized Detective Harris. Whoa. Long time ago, but you're right, he has aged well.

I bought the cereal just for the DVD.

Never thought I'd be able to say that but now I can. I bought a box of Total just for the Barney Miller DVD with the first 2 episodes. I guess there using it as a marketing gimmick for the DVD set.

This is downright hi-larious!!

As for "Barney Miller," this and "Taxi" were religiously watched shows during my childhood and early adolescence (he said, dating himself most egregiously). Definitely worth a viewing on TVLand or on DVD! And yes, Ron had real aplomb even then (despite the too much coal dust on the roof!).

Incidentally, I remember the moment of overweaning pride which only a teen-ager can have, when I learned the bass line from the "Barney Miller" theme. Ah, the days...

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

I have not seen an episode of Barney Miller in years. It is a very good show w/ a funny cast and some great writing.

Now I will have to go check out TVLand and catch a few episodes for old times sake.
