I'd be FUMING too, if it were my name!

I would contact the originator of the petition (or at least webmaster of the site), inform them of the shenanigans, demand that your name be removed, and that the individual(s) who can be traced as having posted your name be censured in some way (say, with a Chain Of Command).

Then, if you've got some time and money to burn, you might consult with (shudder) an attorney, to see if any redress is available (whether criminal, for ID theft, or civil, punitive-wise). This last should not be done lightly, as the courts are clotted enough as it is. But I for one wouldn't judge you for going that way. One doesn't have to lose money for ID theft to still be a Big Deal, IMHO.

Yes, I think you're right. Daniel (and any other whose name has been stolen), I strongly suggest you contact Petition Spot and tell them what's going on - they're not interested in rogue petitions, as it undermines their own reputation.

Though I can't help thinking it's more of a sarcastic black humor that's behind this than bona fide hatred of the show - check out some of the comments, e.g.: "Bill the Janitor: dis sho wuz like somfin offa my mop. I'm sorry but what stupid fool would even waste their time doing such a petition - I mean each to their own, and I think it's all actually quite HI-larious myself (apart from those here that had their sigs snatched) but the shows been gone from FOX for over a year so why waste your time trying to stop it returning to FOX - most likely Joss will take it somewhere else anyway - not to mention that- why would FOX care anyway they're the ones that canned it in the first place.

The whole thing is quite silly really, with no real purpose or effect.

I wouldn't take it too seriously UCLAMathGuy. Looks like nothing more than one or two people who have some mad on for Firefly and are making up or stealing names & making idiotic comments. Just reading the foolishness they wrote should tell you that no one anywhere, especially at Universal, will take this trash seriously.

It sucks they stole your name, and I would definitely send an email to the PtB over at the website to let them know you did not sign the petition and you want your name removed. The least they will do is remove your name. The best case scenario will be that they remove that travesty altogether.

Okay... this is clearly a practical joke. I don't know who is behind it, but no one could possibly read these comments and take them seriously.

I will agree with one thing, though. Firefly should be kept off of Fox. It ought to be aired where it will be appreciated and treated well. Hell, I'd rather see it on HBO. At least they're favorable to Westerns and Original Thinking there.

I am also going to ask for the information of the people that forged my signature and get a lawyer knocking at their door. This is illegal and is considered identity theft and if someone doesn't catch at something like this then they will most likely forge credit cards and social security cards to steal someone identity and money if they aren't already.

I'm going to contact both my District Attorney today and see if actual legal action can be made against these assholes.

As an attorney I can tell you two things.

1. The courts may seem overcrowded, but I say we need more lawsuits. My student loan payments are terrible.

2. Unless you have alot of your own money to spend on your attorney (like some celebrities), then losing money, and I mean alot of money, is the only way you'll find an attorney to help you.
