Maybe Mahers is a "Dyslexic Agnostic Insomniac". I hope he did'nt stay up all night wondering if his movie about GOD is a DOG.

I was hoping for something a little more substantial. Sounds like it was just more of the Borat 'gotcha' stuff.

I don't think it opened everywhere, only in select cities. If so, 10 mil isn't so bad.

yeah, it is only playing in 502 theaters... so it is actually making more per screen than everything else except Beverly Hills Chihuahua...

frankly I can't believe people are paying to see Beverly Hills Chihuahua!

I'm surprised it made $10 Mil for a movie that wasn't well advertised.

Bev Hills Chihuahua - go figure...I went to see Appaloosa Friday and saw a huge line for BVC - I looked at my son and we both shrugged our shoulders. I guess people were in the mood for mindless entertainment (probably due to fear over the economy).

BTW Appaloosa was great. Harris and Mortensen were fantastic together, although Zellweger was miscast. Harris's character reminded me of the Captain in a lot of ways. Go see it if you get the chance.

I went to see 'Burn After Reading' and going out to the movies only made me MORE aware of the economy: $10 for a matinee? WTF??

*sigh*

Yep, which makes it one of the biggest openings ever for a documentary. The third best ever (and the other 2 opened on more screens). And, as was pointed out, it was only in about 500 theatres nationwide (for comparison, American Carol opened on 1600 screens, and the Chiuaua movie was on over 3000), and it still made the top 10.

And, as was also pointed out, it had the 2nd highest per-screen average, which means those 500 theatres were mostly sold-out.

So, you may not grasp it - but it's a success story, not a refutation of the film.

Yay Bill!

Myself, I'm intrigued by "Religulous" but will likely rent it. I don't understand the hatred for the movie, which, as I understand it, pokes fun at RELIGION, not faith. Religion can stand with havin a lot of fun poked at it! If there's IS a God (and I like to think there is), he's got a lot of bigger fish to fry before he gets to Bill Maher. I'm pretty sure Maher hasn't committed genocide in His name.

As for "Beverly Hills Chihuahua"... I saw it with my wife and her 4-year-old niece this weekend... and it's actually quite good. I went it with semi-high expectations (for a kiddie movie) and even then, I was pleasantly surprised. I consider myself a very harsh movie critic, and while this was certainly wasn't perfect, it paired a cute gimmick with a solid story that had a lot of heart. You could do far, far worse than to see BHC.

Like I said, BHC, go figure.

I never thought that a movie about a chihuahua would ever have enough going for it to get such a review from a "harsh" critic as yourself GWEK, thanks for the heads-up.

It reminds me of a movie I saw about a year ago called Bridge to Terabithia. I went along with my sister, brother-in-law and my 10 year-old niece to see this family movie. It truly surprised me how good it was (for being a Disney movie)I was a little moist around the eye sockets at the end.
Watch out for this talent, her name is Annasophia Robb (she was also in Winn Dixie).
