WREN

Cap'n left the following on the OB:

From: NATHAN_F 4:15 pm
To: ALL

16008.1

We have completed the first two weeks of filming, and with that, all the exterior shots for Serenity. No more will cast and crew have to lug equipment and themselves out to the far reaches of the desert to battle the sun, dust, smoke, or the tiny little noseeums that seem impervious to bugspray and all too eager to feast upon our flesh. Happily, we all must report to work on Monday to the stages of Universal City, where we shall face new challenges like finding our own lunches and saying something clever to passing tour trams.
Perhaps due to those minor hardships, and the amount of adventures that are crammed into one day, it seems forever ago that we started rehearsals. Yet there is a long way to go. It is a far cry from filming the series, evident in watching the previous day's work in the extreme luxury of the daily trailer. The huge screen at the end of this monstrosity entertains us with images of my favorite cast being BDH's. It is going to be a real charge the first time we get to see River going "koo koo" when her face is 17' high.
My heart now looks forward to the first time I see Serenity again. My only contact with her since I watched them pulling apart her last remnants at the Fox lot has been the cargo bay doors, with us on location. It will warm my cockles to see her reborn, courtesy of the creative minds of Universal. This will not be an exact duplicate, folks. Learn to love it. Be comfortable with the idea of getting to know her all over again, and falling in love all over again. For she is our home now.
Let's go home.

He sure does talk pretty. Yay!!! We're going home!! :biggin:

I'm so stoked!!! I don't care if little details change, but I'm glad he said something about that so that folks can start to set more realistic expectations. I know from the other threads that there are worries about too many changes. Yeah, they can tweak costumes, change the ship design a little, etc. But it's still our crew and our 'verse.

Of course, if they were to do something horrifically stupid like hide Jayne's biceps under long sleeves the whole movie, then I may find myself having a small fit.

Can I be on a passing tourist tram?
If I fly in from the UK I must surely be a tourist...

My only concern about a 'tweaked' serenity is the loss of Kaylee's handiwork in the kitchen (I love those painted vines everywhere), on the door to her bunk and that little hammock in the drive room.

Oh, and of course Wash's three switches.

If any of those are missing It'll break my heart.

Still watch the movie till the film wears out but it'll be with a sad little empty space.

Hehe... and before i forget, I Love this man, not in a sly way but any person who is that dedicated to a job... and to the people who enjoy what he does in that job... Is worthy of more then a little love for the Cap'n

Seeing how Kaylee's handiwork is in many ways integral to both her and the ship, I can't see them not being there.

Evidently the studio lots are at the outskirts of the Disneyland property in Anaheim, Calif...
there are some kind of people mover/trams that go by and the tourist get to catch a glimpse of whatever is being shot that day (I would love to go there myself!)

Universal City isn't in Anaheim, but the studios are part of a big entertainment/theme park on the Disney model. One part is a guided tram tour of the studio back lot, where they show you the standing sets like the Bates house from Psycho.

Univeral pictures is in Hollywood (although it may technicall be in one of the surrounding LA/Burbank-type locales)and is actually adjacent to Universal's own theme park (Universal Studios) and concert venue (Universal Ampitheater). You can see some small activity on the lots from the theme park ride.

It's times like these I wish I'd never left LA....

I've heard a couple ask about the tram tour. When you get down the hill from the theme park and into the actual studio the first sound stage you come across is ss12. That is where they are currently filming the BDM. It's been a month or so since I was on vacation. I guess my trip was a little early.

Universal Studios/Universal City & City Walk is just minutes north of Hollywood (I believe it's technically North Hollywood?) not way south in Anaheim near Disneyland.
There are tour trams that take you around and show you backlots and sets where movies and TV shows are and have been made for decades.
If you're lucky you might see some actors.
If they're on set and the set is closed, which it usually is, you won't.

wren - thanks much for bringing this here!!

these guys are so cool.

yeah. i'm sure there will be some differences and i expect that this time next year we'll be commenting/debating on what we liked best where, the series or bdm.
but the good news is we'll have both and i'm ok with that.

about the changes to our ship serenity, if you look on the teaser poster for the up coming movie the front of the ship is a lot smoother than that of the original look.

also with this movie taking place a year(?) after the events of the tv show who knows whats happened to the ship, after all we have been told the events in the year leading up to the movie have changed the characters, why not the ship.

its good wait no its great to hear from nathan
and all the other cast members that post on here.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

I seem to have some dust in my eye or something. Honest!

Is it just me, or does Nathan just seem intent on making us all a bit misty eyed?

They may change a few things cosmetically about Serenity Captain, but they can't change what Serenity is and that is home. She always will be home for all of us. Everytime I see her on tv I get goosebumps. I can't wait to see her on the big screen.

I would hate it if they changed, or even didn't give enough emphasis to, some of the characters' original storylines. Wash and Zoe were so much in love and kept a little friction/jealousy going because of Zoe's loyalty to the Cap'n. I hope Joss continues that thread through the movie. I look forward to seeing some great scenes with Zoe and Wash! Love conquers all!

That's a really kick-butt description and yes he does have a way with words. His flair is extremely evident. Seems to me that this movie will go above and beyond and as well it should! The cast and the sounds of the script are truly beyond our imaginations ;)
