The sequel is scheduled to be released June 29, 2012. That's only about 890 days from now!
Any guesses or wishes on the plot?

I'm hoping that maybe this sequel will actually be a prequel or sequel to the previous prequel's temporal shift, and somehow the original canon time-line will be restored.

I wouldn't hold my breath on that... I think Abrams likes what he started, and is going to run with it... And not look back.

If I remember correctly from the DVD-extras, he's talking about making their struggle be against some aspect of the universe, as opposed to a protagonist character.

I also want to say that they mentioned a lot of requests for the next villain to be Khan Noonien Singh. Remember, with a rebooted universe, we get to see their first meeting again.

This far out, it's really anyone's guess though.

Never gonna happen. this was the most successful Trek ever (even accounting for inflation), and won over a lot of new fans. There is NO way they're going to ditch it to satisfy a few old-school fans.

Personally, I want to see them bring in Khan, and set him up as an ongoing villain. He's out there, it'd be a waste to ignore such an awesome character. And there are a lot of ways to go with the character, without rehashing what came before.

Yeah... but if they put Mudd in... chances are they'll cast Jack Black. Eh.

I hope not, I'm not a big fan of Jack Black... Personally I'd rather they go with lesser knowns, then pack it full of high priced names. The characters always seem to be better if the writers aren't writing for a particular actor.

I'd like to see Trelane.
In this reality, I'd bet he's not quite so nice...

I think if we see Trelane (which might not be a bad idea) they might go ahead and officially make him a Q (as was done in the books, and almost done on TNG).

Another character I'd like to see is Sybok (even though I hate hate hate Trek 5).

I think the idea of a charismatic cult leader who now hails from a recently destroyed world has some interesting potential. Could be their way to make the story more topical, which they've said they plan to do next time around.

Team up Khan and Sybok, and I'll be giddy.

My guess would be Khan. First one had Captain Pike, so stayed true to the original series in that way, so adding Khan into the mix pays tribute to TOS *AND* most fans' favorite of the movies.

And I'm betting Abrams could pull it off, too.

They say flat-out in the commentary that they almost put a shot of the Botany Bay floating in space after the credits.

I'd rather they go farther back....

Say something like, after young Kirk crashes the vette, his uncle no longer agrees to watch him, so his mother leaves him on Tarsus IV with relatives.. This will allow him to be there, and witness the massacre perpetrated by Kodos "the Executioner". This sets up a remake of "The Conscience of the King".

Or have the Enterprise, instead of the Farragut respond to the dikironium cloud creature on Tycho IV.

Both events that can happen before they meet Khan..

And why? Because Khan is a legendary villain, somewhat on par with Darth Vader. I'd hate to see them go there too soon.

*** Side Note *** Until I watched the DVD-extras, I'd have never guessed that the kid young Kirk passes in the Vette, is his brother, and that the Vette actually belonged to George Kirk. I see why it got cut, but it's a fun fact none the less.

Looks like the concensus is that this alternate timeline will continue. With Spock Prime now living in the past, how will he decide to communicate with Kirk and his younger self about events that are destined to occur? Will he tell them what's coming and how to solve the problem, or will he just let them deal with it on their own?

I would imagine that he would let them deal on their own - Spock is big on the Prime Directive and all. He only interfered in this last one to correct the interference of Nero.

There is a book scheduled for later this year that deals with Starfleet trying to get future info from Spock, but he refuses.

LMAO.

Seriously, that was one of Walters best lines ever.
He never got much decent dialogue, but that little bit there he was *utterly* convincing that he was gonna need a change of underwear real soon.

As for the continuity, well, I wince every time hollywood says "Sequel" - especially as everything these days seems a rehash of a rehash of a tired old story that wasn't even original in the first place (Dashiell Hammet and Akira Kurosawa gotta be rolling like a pair of dynamos in their graves by now), and sturgeons law seems stapled to their foreheads out there.

All the more props for Pine as Kirk, I woulda never, EVER in a million years thought anyone else could bring that overblown, arrogant, melodramatic jackass to the screen so effectively, and yet different enough to be fresh with it, and Urbans tribute to Bones was jaw dropping - if, and only if, they can pull a similar miracle with Khan, are they gonna impress me, and Ricardo left a biiiig role to fill.

I am not all that interested, but that I am at all interested says much for the quality of the first one.

I think the best candidate for Khan, outside of a total unknown, would have to be Javier Bardem.

Oooh, good call. He's old for the roll, but wasn't Khan supposed to be pretty old in the original series? Maybe my memory banks have been corrupted...

And, like Frem, I wouldn't have thought they could find a decent actor to play a young Kirk, but they nailed it. And Urban seemed to be CHANNELING Deforest Kelley, fer chrissakes. I thought Anton Yelchin was a bit over the top as Chekhov, and that guy from "Heroes" did a decent Spock. But Kirk and McCoy stole the show.

Unfortunately for me, I'd just watched "Funny People" before watching "Trek", so every time they showed Nero, all I could hear was him saying, in his thick New Zealand accent, "I just about shit my panties!"

Bardem is a bit old, I suppose (though I don't know how old Khan was in Space Seed, 40ish I'd guess). But Greenwood was a bit old for Pike, and that still turned out well. So, I could live with it.
