In the beginning teaser of "Serenity", the Alliance captain who almost catches Mal and Co. mentions "and flag InterPol" about a "rogue Firefly class vessel." I think I have an idea of what "the cortex" is, but what is "InterPol"?

It's a real-life international police organization that apparently is still in operation 500 years from now. This is the website for it -

Its an Alliance organization that does surveys and opinion polls. Alliance officers are very concerned with public opinion. He probably just wanted to know how it would effect his popularity if he went after the crew of lovable outlaws.

It must have helped his popularity since here we are a year after he said it, talking about it!

Thanks for the link, ZaphodB. I wonder if their flag motif will still be the same in 500 years--in the Firefly universe, anyway. Something to ponder, I suppose.

US-China alliance, history of the Spanish Empire, EU expansion, Nato... got my own theory on why Fux pulled the show, after reading how some fat cats at fux are right-wingers and didn't like some of the themes and ideas in the show Firefly.
Thankfuly univers-zel seem to be a whole lot nicer and are giving great support to firefly
