I need your help. I want to design a shirt of Favorite Firefly quotes, or Words of Wisdom from the show. Kind of a "All I learned in life I learned from Firefly" theme I have a few quotes or statements in mind. I figure about 10 - 15 statements would be good. Yes, I know this has been done before. But I think it would look great as a list on the back of a shirt. and then a final statement that says "list composed from the fans at www.fireflyfans.net" and even a tag that says

see the movie "Serenity" April 2005

I know I want these four

River - The human body can be drained of blood in 8.6 seconds given adequate vacuuming systems.

Book - It's about faith. You don't fix faith. It fixes you.

Mal - Someone ever tries to kill you, you try to kill 'em right back!

Jayne - Ten percent of nothing is -- let me do the math here -- nothing into nothing, carry the -

Now, I know there are a ton we can think of. I also want to keep this to a "all ages rating" We love our show and want others to know about it. Also, any of you that have had expierence with zazzle or cafe press I'm looking to you for suggestions & advice. Hopefully, we shouldn't run into any LEGAL issues here. I have a few other ideas that I'll launch into if this works. I'm not promising anything right now I'm just putting the thought out there.

"Two roads diverged in a wood, and I took the road less traveled by and they CANCELLED MY FRIKKIN' SHOW. I totally shoulda took the road that had all those people on it. Damn." --Joss

Could you please just make it stranger? Stranger. Odder. Could be weirder. More bizarre. How about uncanny?

Seems the "Serenity 2005" is an auto-nixer for Zazzle.

That aside, a favorite quote of mine is

"I do the job, then I get paid. Go run your little world."

Sort of sums up Mal's personality succinctly.
He just wants what he feels he deserves and cares not for what the rest of the 'verse is doing.

Oh, and Early's line

"Well, here I am."

My favorite line of River's was the one from OOG.

(sorry, I'm paraphrasing here)

"You think we'll die of suffocation. That isn't going to happen. We'll freeze to death first."

--------------
MAL: Everybody's makin' a fuss.

This isn't help or advice per se but it might help. I think there is a law concerning copyrights, at least in Canada, where you can put just about whatever you want on a T-shirt (including logos) and it is considered a "parody" under the law and thus protected under free speach legislation. Anyone have details on that one? Could be just a rumour.

About quotes, gotta have:
"no power in the 'verse can stop me"
" We did the impossible... and that makes us mighty"
"If wishes were horses we'd all be eating steak"

Another thing to consider is the graphics. Is it too much to put all 10 charactes (yes, the ship too) and serenity/firefly in chinese charactes and planets and spaceports and such? Is there a simple composite of images that really summarises the "feeling" of the show?

Don't like River's quote. Ew. Would much rather see "Also, I can kill you with my brain." for her.

Love the idea of an Early quote, and think that one's perfect.

Mal: "I think my days of not taking you seriously are certainly coming to a middle."

Book's is too religious. I like his kneecaps quote better.

There are so many good quotes! Its hard to select some though, because taken out of context they don't really make sense. Some from Wash are particularly good. One useable one is "We all know I'm the funny one."

Hope I helped!

Instead of trying to nail down my "favorite" quote (I don't think I could ever do that!!! ), how about I just point you at http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0303461/quotes, IMDB's Memorable Quotes section on Firefly.

Yeah, I'm lazy...

Going back to the original poster's wish for "Words of Wisdom" quotes, I recommend the Ten Things I Learned From Watching Firefly thread,
http://www.fireflyfans.net/thread.asp?b=4&t=1967 for ideas.

However, you may then need to search further (or watch the episode, what a chore!) to get the exact quote.

Eg, the thread has "Hitting someone with a closed fist can hurt, but it is, on occasion, hilarious".

Whereas the exact quote (according to imdb as referenced by Rabit above) is "You know, they tell ya to never hit a man with a closed fist but it is, on occasion, hilarious."

Not sure if the example satisfies your "all ages rating" requirement, but then I'm not sure about the blood-draining quote either. Or if the figure of 8.6s is scientifically correct.

Would be nice to get at least one quote from every crew member.

Simon-

"No, this is what going mad feels like"

or

"My sister's a ship, we had a complicated childhood"

Kaylee: Wash, tell me I'm pretty
Wash: Were I unwed I would take you in a manly fashion
Kaylee: 'Cause I'm pretty?
Wash: 'Cause you're pretty

This thread the "ten things" is very much what I'm looking for. Yeah direct quotes are good, and I know that's what I used for examples but they are not as easy to get out of context. Definately love the Some people Juggle Geese bit.

So taking inspiration from the "things we've learned from the show" angle what stuff would we as a fireflyfans.net community want on our shirt?

I'm stewing on a few ideas for the front

"Two roads diverged in a wood, and I took the road less traveled by and they CANCELLED MY FRIKKIN' SHOW. I totally shoulda took the road that had all those people on it. Damn." --Joss

What I've learned:

"Nothin' parts" ain't.
We're special because everyone always has the advantage over us.
Doctors do not always respect the sanctity of life...unless it is their own.
It is eerily quiet in space.
Screen your passengers with more than "My ship's the nicest!"
Whores have rights too.
Never visit someone who shot you before.
Death is just a delay in torture.
Use a tether when on/off board other people's ships.
You lose because of superior numbers.
If someone eats people, they will not pass up the opportunity to try and do so, no matter how much it looks like they will.
Chinese is a fun language to swear in!
The point of swearin' is that it ain't appropriate.
Nothing ever goes according to the gorramned plan.

some of these (like the last one) are from my upcoming Murphy's Laws of Firefly poster but feel free to use them if you like them. I am not greedy. ;)

I learned
ï‚· If someone wants you to return to your employer up-front money for a job they changed their mind about, do it.
ï‚· If you salvage a ship that Reevers attacked, get out.
ï‚· Its eerily quiet in space
 Just because you steel money and dump your partner out the airlock before leaving atmosphere, doesn’t make you a bad guy
ï‚· You can be a dirty, grease-monkey mechanic and still wear a pretty dress sometimes
ï‚· Always cut your apples before you eat them

Smart ass. I'm just saying that because it would be more universally appealing if it weren't overly religious. Also, it didn't appeal to me personally, so I gave my opinion. We ARE still allowed to do that here, right?

Can you do quotes where its two people talking, cuz if so, I really like the one from the pilot:

Mal ~ "Wheel never stops turning, Badger."
Badger ~ "That only matters to the people on the rim."

Then my fav Jayne one:

"Pain is scary."

um... that's really all I can think of. How are the shirts coming along? Will you tell us when they are avalible? These shirts sound so cool!

The product that you have requested does not exist. It may have been removed from the database or it may have a maturity rating greater than your maturity level.

Cool idea.

I did always like River's quote about Killing you with my Brain to Jayne. That cracks me up.
Also her chant of:
"Two by two hands of Blue"

Early's:
"Does that seem fair to you?"

Or

"Little man loved fire."

Then Mals:
"I'd given some thought to movin' off the edge - not an ideal location- thinkin' a place in the middle."

Zoe's:
"Sir? I think you have a problem with your brain being missing"

Jaynes:
"Time for some thrilling heroics"

But there are so many and many have already mentioned the better ones.

Yes, I'll make a bear for each of the 9 characters, I'll be done with the Jayneisms shirt in about 10 minutes.

Shiny shirts! I agree, those -ism shirts are really only good to River and Jayne. What other plans do you have in the future?

Not sure right now. I got a few ideas spinning. I'm gonna mostly stick with the quotes style items. I may make a set of items with Joss quotes and whatever else hits my fancy. I love all the feedback from fff.net since this was really my inspiration to do the whole thing anyway. Looking forward to the responses from those who have purchased items. Anyway, glad to see that there is interest out there!
