On IMDB, they have changed the status of Serenity. It is no longer listed as "In Production", and you can rate it. I rated it a ten and the thing said that it needs at least 5 votes to have an official rating. I'll bet we can make it into the 'Top 250' by the end of the week.

There's been one or two threads about this on the Browncoats board, and I know a bunch of people have voted, including me. I think it's been decided that they don't put up ratings until films are officially released...

Ok, well hopefully they will count all the votes before it is released. When it's finally in theaters it should have a high rating. I would love to see it in the top ten.

Apologies if you all already this but to get a film in the imdb top 250 it has a slightly strange but fair system which weights the votes.

That means if you sign up to imdb and give serenity a ten in wont really count for much. When you register an account you need to spend a fair amount of time rating other movies that you've seen and making sure that you give some films some bad reviews as well as good ones (this means the system values your vote more as it can see you are a fair reviewer).

Im sure if you have just signed up to vote for serenity you can start rating other films now and your vote will count for more. Even if imdb aren't going to put a rating up until the films released it is still worthwhile registering now and reviewing the films you see. Then when serenity comes out and you give it a good review.Im sure we'll be able to break the top 250.

I have voted and included my comments.
But I will go back and work on rating other films I have seen...that is a good point about making my 'membership' and reviews seem more valid to them (heaven knows I can find a lot to criticize about most films I see).

Are we talking about stuffing the ballot box, so to speak? Or are we just rallying people who've gone to the advance screenings to vote?

I believe (read "hope" ) that we're talking about the latter. I, for example, am not voting yet as I haven't seen the movie. I'm a firm believer that I will eventually vote it a 9 or 10 (Yes, I'm keeping an open mind ), but I won't vote on it until I've actually seen it.

Id agree with that to if we all just give serenity a 10 now imdb will realise that people who havent seen the film are voting and maybe mark it down or something.

The best way for us browncoats to go about it would be to register now, vote for other films that you see and then when serenity comes Im sure it'll get a 10 from us all and the fact that we will all be long standing members will mean that our votes will count a little more in the weighted vote.

Yeah, I don't know about Joss and the rest, but I personally would want to earn any acclaim I received. Loyalty's a fine thing, but so's letting someone succeed on their own merit. (For an extreme circumstance of bias slanting ratings, check out one of Michael Moore's movies. Zeroes and tens galore!)

And I didn't know about that system of examining users' given ratings for variety, Trask. I'm probably a lightweight in credibility as far as the IMDB's concerned, because here I've been voting according to the Thumper rule ("if you can't say something nice...")
