I've read a few of posts to this site and while I agree that Firefly is the best Sci-Fi show on TV right now and that FOX is absolute scum for cancelling it, I don't believe that flaming FOX or boycotting them will make things any better. In fact I believe that there is the potential to make things worse.
Hypothetically, let's say that UPN develops an interest in Firefly and wants to pick it up. If I understand how TV works, it isn't enough that UPN simply pay for the production costs of the show but that they'll have to negotiate with FOX to buy the rights to the show as well. By pissing off FOX, you run the risk that they may decide that if they aren't producing Firefly, nobody will (by jacking up the price to the rights until it is no longer cost effective). I think it's probably a good idea to write FOX to tell them that you're disappointed that they cancelled the show, but don't piss them off. Right now, I think our efforts would be better spent writing to all the networks that could potentially be interested in picking up the show.

Also,
Isn't Fox the only network that is so far willing to release the stuff they own the rights to on DVD. Even the shows on other networks that are released on DVD are owned by Fox (Friends, Buffy, Angel).

They have an interest in seeing Firefly do well... even if it isn't on Fox. To attack Fox makes everything more difficult, IMO.

I agree.

Simply state your disappointment in their decision and move on. Hopefully, they will release all the episodes on DVD.

Actually, the DVDs are owned by the 20th Century Fox studio. While it and Fox Network are sister companies, there usually isn't much communication between the two. No matter how much we piss off Fox Network, it's likely that 20th Century Fox would never hear a thing. And if they did hear a thing, they probably wouldn't give a rat's ass.

Basically, if Firefly is a desired property, 20th Cent. Fox will release the DVDs to turn a profit. Companies don't typically hold grudges if there is profit to be had. So, no matter how pissed off Fox Network may get, it will never affect 20th Century Fox's decision to release it on Home Video.

That's not to say angering Fox Network is a good thing, because they *can* hold back the rights to the series... though, again, it may not be cost effective to hold a grudge and freeze the rights in an endless economic battle. You have to remember, buisnesses are out to make a profit... even if the Execs at Fox Network were to be angered by the fans, money speaks louder than anger, and buisnesses are out to make as much money as possible.

Pestering FOX is a deadend. I sent FOX an email politely telling them that I was disappointed.

Now I'm moving on. UPN may be able to take in Firefly. I've already sent out some postcards via USPS online postcards http://usps.com/netpost/ and I've written some to send out by snail mail tomorrow.
