DONCOAT

I am an active member of the Bad Astronomy / Universe Today forum:
www.bautforum.com

I have just made the following post in the "Small Media At Large" section of that board.

Quote:

"Serenity" Money-Back Offer!

This is the critical weekend for Serenity. If it does well, we are likely to get one or more sequels. If it dies at the box office, it could be the end of the line for this outstanding science fiction platform.

To encourage you fence-sitters, I am making a limited, one-time offer. Go see Serenity this weekend, and if you don't like it, I will refund your ticket price.

This is an honest-to-goodness offer from me personally. I have no interest in Universal, Mutant Enemy, or any other entity with financial interest in Firefly/Serenity. It is subject to the restrictions listed below.

I'm doing this for (partly) selfish reasons -- I want more Firefly/Serenity! But I'm also confident that any BAUT member who sees this movie will like it so well that you won't be taking me up on my offer. In fact, I'm betting that you will end up as much of a fan of Firefly/Serenity as I am... and I'll really enjoy knowing I got some new people started on my addiction.

Restrictions and Procedures
1. You must go to see Serenity this weekend, Oct. 7, 8 or 9, 2005. Keep your ticket stubs as I will require proof of purchase and the ticket price. The offer is open to persons from all countries where Serenity is playing on the specified dates.
2. Honor system applies. You must truly and honestly dislike the film. I'll take your word for that, but I do require that you explain why you didn't like it in 100 words or so. The reason isn't important, but you need to be serious enough to write it down.
3. Limited to persons registered on the BAUT forum as of yesterday (Oct. 5 2005) -- up to two tickets per member.
4. Limited to a maximum of 50 claims (that's 50 admissions; if you request two refunds it counts as two claims). You'll have to take my word for it as to whether I've received that many refund requests (honor system again). "I trust my captain!"
5. You must be willing to give me a vaild real-life address to send your refund. I will give claimants my address so you can send me your ticket stubs.
6. You must make your claim by PM to me, on or before Oct. 16, 2005. I will send refunds in the form of money orders, not cash or personal check, within 10 days of receiving your ticket stubs.

That's it. You can't lose! Go see the movie. You'll have a great time. If you don't, you'll only be out two hours' time, and I'll have an empty bank account. But I know that's not going to happen.

Oh... and if you don't know about this movie yet, please don't read the "Serenity Spoilers" thread here until after you see it. You can go online (imdb.com or rottentomatoes.com) to see reviews and get an idea what it's all about.

Come on, BAUT brothers and sisters! Let's help make Serenity a hit -- risk free!

I've done everything else I could think of, but I only know so many people in real life. So now it's time to put my wallet on the line, even at the mercy of near-total strangers.

I probably have more money than sense (for now), but gorram it, something's gotta be done!

You are a Browncoat with a capital "B"!
I'm sure you won't need to, but if worse comes to worst, you can always take up a collection here. Good job!
