I saw that there is a Firefly pen and paper role playing game (I suppose it is like a White Wolf or D&D game) and I began to wonder if there were online roleplaying chat rooms to support it? Or if there might be plans for an MMORPG based on the series?

Anyone have info?

Okay next question; Is it worth spending my hard earned money on ?
Or could I shoe horn the background I've got from the series and film into Inquestitor from Warhammer 40,000?

I think it was worth it. With a few paragraphs on almost every planet ever in the series and the movie, details on the firefly class ship and other ships, as well as spaceship creation rules, equipment and other details on the 'verse, very much worth $30 from amazon or elsewhere. Lots of pretty pictures too. Some RPGamers won't like it 'cuz there's not enough number crunchy goodness, but if you like your games to run at the speed of the plot, I give it two thumbs up.

Yeah, the Serenity RPG book is pretty shiny. The mechanics are alien to me but the background info & such is great.

I've been in a GURPS Firefly game for 9-ish months or so. My GM & I have the book & we both like it quite a bit. We're not going to switch mechanics, but he is going to use it heavily as a source book. Lot o' RPing goodies in it, like a "how to speak Frontier" section, a few pages of Chinese interjections, etc. Get it, it's worth it.

I'm not saying that there is, but check into a program called OpenRPG. It's basically a chat room proggie with a white board, dice roller, miniture (in the form of pictures) movement and facing, yadda yadda yadda. It's the type of program that you can just pick up and start using the basic functions (after a somewhat difficult install -- it needs some other programs to work, but the site should have it all) or go crazy and put in character sheets and skills and all that good stuff.

I use it every Tuesday along with TeamSpeak to play D&D with a bunch of friends all over the East Coast (yeah, I'm an uber geek/dork). While not perfect, there are several hundred people at any one time using it to play some form of role playing stuff. Mostly you'll see D&D, but you'll also see Star Wars, Vampire, and other more obscure RPG goodness.

Again, never seen Firefly being played in it, but I'm guessing you wouldn't have problems getting a game together if you tried.

The book is worth the price. It has expantion potentinal and I do think it is a good system. While not my first choice of mechanics. I think Weis and crew did well.

It's definitely worth looking at, and buying. If you don't like the system (it appeals to my own 'just enough rules to perform' mentality) there is plenty of source information to work with.

the only gripe i have about the game is the dice.

D2, D4, D6, D8, D10, and D12 are all required.

those all had to be purchased on top of the 40 bucks for the book (if you get it online it's cheaper i believe).

Other than that, it's a great system. Fantastic mechanics, well thought out creation rules, and all the reference material you could possibly want.
