GENERAL DISCUSSIONS

In a strange way, I think "Arrested Development" is very similar to "Firefly"

I just bought the first season of Arrested Development and watched most of it pretty recently. Since I just watched the whole Firefly set right before, it's kinda startling to see the similarities between these two series...

1.) Both of the leading men (Nathan Fillion and Jason Bateman) look kinda similar... almost as though they could be related.

2.) a central cast of 9 unique and interesting characters

3.) unique hand-held camera work and visual style

4.) compelling stories in very realistic worlds (well, the Firefly 'verse is one of the most realistic sci-fi settings I've seen in a very long time)

5.) both series are/were critically acclaimed, yet struggle(d) to find audiences (a little less so with "Arrested" since it seems to continue to go on strong with its 3rd season)

6.) both are/were on FOX (duh!)

I remember at the end of Season 1 of Arrested Development, there was so much speculation as to whether the show would go on or not. To everyone's surprise, FOX actually did renew it! Why couldn't they have done the same with Firefly dammit! (rhetorical question at this point, since thousands have already asked that same question). Did I miss any other points of comparison?

Heh heh. Yep! One of the posters here recognized Nathan and his brother in a bar ( think it was in Vancouver ) and went up to say 'hi' to him. I forget the exact sequence of events, but it involed Nathan telling our fellow browncoat " I'm not Jason Bateman ", to which he was told," ..Yeah, I know, Captain."
I believe drinks were bought for one by the other, and it ended up being one shiny good encounter.

Man, how awesomne would it be to see a BDH out in the real world, where you're not expecting it?

" They don't like it when you shoot at 'em. I worked that out myself. "
