QUANTUM2005

I am one of the many viewers who after watching Firefly, was hooked. I had intentions to watch the series eventually, but never actually grabbed it at my video store. It was only after a clerk praised the show that I gave in. That night, after watching the whole CD, I cursed myself for not getting them all.

In a media ocean of rehashed ideas and just uncreative movies/shows, Firefly was a welcome sight. So, imagine my surprise when I asked the clerk, what season the show was on. I needed to know because I refused to watch Serenity, prior to completing the series. My mouth dropped when she said it had been cancelled.

Now, much of my ignorance is based on the fact that I was on a TV sabbatical. I watch at work every now and then. I was ready to come back, full time for this show. Anyway, my point is that this show has a great deal to offer. Unfortunately, it was crippled by bad media p.r. and inter-network politics/legality.

It is sad that all it would take is one viewing to make you a fan of this show. Not too many can do this. So, I ask you all, whom can I direct the vast amount of correspondence to? If it's Fox, then to what corp. monkey (pls include address/e-mail). Thank you for this site and your help.

Direct your correspondence at friends and
family.

Make sure your video store will have plenty of
copies of Serenity. It's available in DVD-Wide
Screen, DVD-FULL Screen, VHS-Full Screen, and
UMD Video for PSP (Handheld Sony PSP game
player) Do people rent those?

Is Serenity still playing in your area?

Map of US theaters playing Serenity:

http://imdb.com/title/tt0379786/cinemashowtimes?location=map

See the movie again if you can. Check second
run theaters. Buy an on-line ticket and
don't go.

Make sure your library is going to carry
Serenity. I have read that it is called
a purchase request. I think there are
20,000 libraries in the US and some may
buy all versions or multiple copies if
they think library card holders will
want them.

Join the Universal Official website:

It is free to join. I haven't even gotten
any junk emails from joining.

It is too late to contact Fox.

It is all up to tickets and DVD sales now.

Serenity DVDs for Christmas!

Forgive my naivete, but I'm hearing a lot about why it's too late to contact FOX. My question is, why? I know money speaks the loudest, but I still feel like there must be more that we can do.

the show was canceled three years ago,
the production company: Mutant Enemy no longer exists,
20th Century Fox (production) didn't keep any sets or costumes or anything,

back (three years ago) when it was first canceled
it would have been possible to write to Fox (TV),
but they weren't interested at all...
it was a wasted effort then
(except that it gave heart to Joss & the cast)
and it is ancient history now.

Joss said in his most recent blog,

Many of you want to know what the future holds. Anxiety, hurricanes, and Male Pattern Baldness. But maybe also some art-stuff, which is really what you guys are into. No, I don't know anything about sequels, or spinoffs, or Nathan's President for Life gig. I'll keep my ear to the ground of course, but for now I'm just going to rest on my laurels (I have two). Oh! Oh! But I will tell you that Brett and I are talking about another three part comic, and it's gonna be a hoot. Takes place during the show, and has some sweet character deaths -- I mean moments! ("And what brings you to our ship, FutureTara..?") Sorry. Horrible taste. (Empty inside!) But wait'll you see the cover...

so be happy that more comics are on the way...
and I'm willing to bet that in two years we'll have a sequel (finally) green lit

but whatever happens, Fox (productions OR TV) won't be involved.
(for one thing, I think Joss is bitter and won't go back to Fox TV)

Yes contact video shops or write to thier websites expressing interest in it, get them to stock Firefly series and put reviews up at work on notice boards. Don't bash people over the head with it though, it does not work!!!!!!!!!!!!

As others have said, money talks louder than words. So, we need to keep the "Firefly" and Serenity DVD sales high. Folks have already made suggestions on how to do that, but one that I don't think has been mentioned is the River Tam Sessions, the viral marketing clips Joss and Summer put together. They can be found at www.session416.com. Spread them around, too, so they can do their virusy thing and spark interest.

If you are insistent on sending the correspondence, I don't have addresses but can point you in two directions. 20th Century Fox presently have the TV rights for "Firefly," you can ask them to start it back up or sell the rights to someone who will. However, they've been receiving such letters for years, including one massive, coordinated write-in campaign just after the cancellation--when it would have had the most chance for success. Yet 20th Century have not been influenced in the slightest and I doubt that will change. You might also write the Sci Fi Channel and ask them to buy the rights to "Firefly." That has a miniscule chance of succeeding, but "Firefly" is an expensive show to make and 20th Century might not part with it cheaply.

But the thing that will really convince 20th Century or Sci Fi to do something is money. If they see there's money in it, they'll go for it (If you tell them there's money in it, they will discount you as a biased fan). The only way for them to gauge the profitability of continuing things one way or another is the DVD sales. So, to repeat, find a way to encourage folk to buy the DVD (without coming on too strong).
