Just thought I'd let all you Flans know what a great day was had by all in Belfast at their first Serenity/Firefly convention.

It was the first convention that I'd ever been to so it was the perfect build up to Serenity².

I flew into Belfast late Friday night and went to stay in the Days Hotel which is a good lil hotel if you ever fancy a trip there. I got up bright and early and took a taxi to the cinema and queued to register my ticket at around 8.45.

By 9am we were moved round to screen 8 where we could buy autograph and photoshoot tickets before we were led into the screen to take our seats.

We were informed by one of the convention guys Thomas that we were running late due to the fact that Summer's replacement Jonathan Woodward had slept in so he did an inpromptu opening ceremony before we watched this little film you might have heard of called Serenity

Half way through a shout came out from the crowd, from Jonathan I think, saying "Jewel Staite ladies & gentleman" and a big cheer went up.

After watching the BDM again we were treated to a Q&A with the gorgeous Jewel. She was fantastic, answered everybodys questions and was just a real delight to listen too.

I managed to ask her a couple of qs;

Having worked with some of the biggest names in Sci-Fi such as Hayden Christensen, David Duchovny and of course Joss, who else would she like to work with? After clarifying I meant in any genre she said it was Meryl Streep, and that Meryl was her idol. ALthough she would like to work with Johnny Depp, and make out with him!! Great answer.

Having spoken to Summer at Edinburgh and finding out her reaction to knowing the movie was getting made, I was wondering what yours was She said she was quite sceptical, and didnt really want to believe it until she was actually on set, because the cancellation broke her heart

If a train leaves New York heading west at 9am.... at this point she looked a bit worried so i said just teasing, I was just wondering if you contributed any writing to Firefly She said she would have liked to but didn't. Alan however would always say what a great idea he had for this scene or the next episode and that Joss just humoured him

After Jewels it was time for a Q&A with Jonathan, and wow was this entertaining!! He came in wearing a kilt and was dancing around the floor like a loony. Might have something to do with the half bottle of Whiskey he drank while up there. He was fantastic, really entertaining and funny and somewhat random too but it was just a fantastic hour.

Man it was only yesterday and I can barely remember it already, no that it wasnt memorable just that it was a long day.

After Jonathan's Q&A came the photo shoot. I had a pic taken with Jewel, and both Jewel & Jonathan. In the double pic I pinched Jonathans pint of guinness and drank it all in front of him, much to Jewels amusement. He was impressed though. Jewel looked stunning, really radiant. I was blown away.

We then had the autograph session and I added two more names to my DVD cover, my Kaylee comic cover signed and a gorgeous picture of Jewel signed too. I also did some shots of whiskey with Jonathan as he signed my dvd cover, I don't think he stopped drinking at all that day!!

Next came the auction with the top prize being a replica of Mals gun. It was an impressive piece with an equally impressive amount of money spent on it, I think it went for £460 or something.

Next was the raffle where pretty much every one was a winner because they had so much stuff to give away from Serenity tee shirts to Serenity OST's

Then, the final event of the convention was the screen test, where lucky raffle winners got to act out a scene with either Jonathan or Jewel, 2 guys acting with Jewel, and two girls with Jonathan. That was really funny too, and kudos to the girls as they had to actually converse in chinese at one point.

Finally, as we were leaving Jonathan came up to me, hugged me and said we'd have to get some Guiness drunk at the night do, I said it was on me and he said it was a deal.

We all went our seperate ways and met again at The Factory at night where more drinking

was undertaken and lots of hilarity. Unfortuately I left at about midnight as I had to fly home.

I would love to hear from other Flans who were there, especially as my camera decided to pack up and I only got two good pics, both of Jonathan so please please please send me a message

Wow, that's great! Also..YOU ROCK! For giving us a report! That sucks your camera died... No pictures of Jewel. :(

But Jonathan is sooo funny! Always one of the best con guests!

ha I watched you down that guinness as I was waiting in line.

It was a good event. Unfortunatly by the time the stars arrived at the afterparty I was too drunk to use my phone to grab any pics.

Last I remember was getting a kiss on the cheek from jewel after buying her a drink then staggering around with the bouncer chatting away before heading home to bed.

Definatly a good day/night. The stolen whiskey was nice :P
