Firefly Soundtrack Question

I got the soundtrack and I've listened to it a few times. I'm just wondering if anyone has insight about why they decided to organize the tracks like they did.

It's pretty obvious that chronological order wasn't the key, since the Heart of Gold montage is track three, and Niska pops up in track eight, then you have the Reaver chase theme in track twenty two.

I've tried puzzling it out in terms of a narrative thing, but I'm coming up blank still. Can anyone help me figure out what's going on?
