OSCAR night.

"And the Best Actor of 2006 is -- Nathan Fillion for 'Serenity'!"

Nathan walks up to the podium, takes the statuette from the hot babe, looks at it (the statuette, not the babe), smiles and says: "Shiny"

Then we wake up, and realize it was all just a dream.

Seriously. While I think Nathan did an outstanding job, if Summer Glau gets overlooked, it will be nothing short of criminal.

I've already boycotted watching the OSCARS for about 17 years now (I can't even remember why -- but needless to say, they irritated the crap out of me for something). If her stellar performance isn't acknowledged, I will refuse to even mention the Academy of Motion Picture Arts (or whatever the heck those self-aggrandizing primadonnas call themselves).

Prepare to be disappointed. Sci-fi performances usually gets overlooked by the Oscars. Serenity will be lucky to get nominated in the effects and music categories.

I'm still ticked off at the Oscars for not awarding Johnny Depp an Oscar for Pirates of the Caribbean. His performance in that was nothing short of mind-blowing. But because it wasn't a "serious" movie he doesn't get anything for it. Idiots.

By the same token, since Serenity isn't what they think is "art" (by which I mean sleep-inducingly boring) it won't be nominated for anything.

"I'm having one of those things - a headache with pictures."

"Sucker! Competitive violence, that's why you're here!"

I know. And I don't understand it. They'll nominate silly cartoons (uh, no relation to me) for OSCARS, but not Sci-fi (okay, rarely Sci-fi).

It was a major coup in 1978, when they actually nominated "Star Wars" for Best Pic. It didn't win -- which it should have -- if for no other reason, that it completely changed the face of sci-fi and (arguably) all motion pictures made from that time, forward.

Don't get me started on Summer's performance again. I've exhausted myself on that subject in a few other threads here. It's a darn shame if she doesn't get acknowledged for it. Darn, darn, darn shame.

"I can't!! Too much hair!"
