I haven't seen anybody post info about this and i found it by accident on Amazon. If somebosy already posted about this, I apologise.

The category is sci-fi, it is list as Serenity in the same style and from the same company that did the book adaptation of the movie. (I thought I'd look when I noticed in the back of said book it says "more books from the verse coming in the future)

It doesn't say what the plot is, but more official stories from the 'verse!!! I can't wait! :oD

Looks like the title will be "Mirror Image", 320 pages, released in July of this year.

"Mirror Image", hmmm? Whose image is 'mirrored' (i.e 'reversed'), I wonder?

Looks like I better go ahead and start posting my fanfic about Mal's 'freedom fighter'/'terrorist' brother, before I get scooped by an actual novel...

Speculatively,

hmmm... why do you suppose Serenity is in quotes? and what is the S. referring to? The way it's listed: ("Serenity" S.)

on Amazon, "S." seems to mean "series"... look at these amazon book titles:

Summon the Thunder (Star Trek: Vanguard S.)
The Last Full Measure (Star Trek: Enterprise S.)
Carnival of Souls (Buffy the Vampire Slayer S.)

The thought of a series of Serenity novels is making me extremely giddy!

On the U.S. Amazon site it lists Keith R.A. DeCandido as the author, (he of course is the one that did the movie novelization) but it has July 1st of 2009 as the publishing date, (hopefully that is a typo.)

On the same note, does anyone know more about this one? http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1931567522/qid=1142972563/sr=2-2/ref=

Serenity: Out in the Black by Tracy Hickamn and his wife Laura.

At 96 pages I'm guessing add-on modules for the RPG book, but I'm not sure.

I was actually wondering the other day what happened to the planned novels, and while it is nice to see an actual date, I'm a bit skeptical.

'Mirror Image' has been making the rumour rounds since last August:

http://www.fireflyfans.net/thread.asp?b=7&t=12048&newsid=0

Interesting though, that even then the date for the book was July 2006.

At the time Keith R. A. DeCandido denied that the book existed. Seems odd that this is popping up again now. If the book really was in the works then why wait almost a year before releasing it?

In short - I'll believe it when I see it.

Last I heard from what Keith said in interviews on 'The Signal' and 'Firefly Talk' Pocket Books has received several manuscripts from different authors for Serenity follow-up novels. At this point though they haven't selected one yet so anything you see on Amazon is just 'smoke and mirrors'.

I was at a convention in January where one of the several authors mentioned you mentioned (Steven Brust to be exact) who had sent in a manuscript was also there. He was told the proposed series was dropped completely, much to his (and ours) disapointment, but that he was still trying to shop it around.

On the plus side, he read us the first few chapters and boy was it shiny!

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Huh?

The proposed novels were dropped? I hadn't heard that.

Anyone confirm this?

remember, this was information as of the end of January. (Weekend of Jan 20-22 to be precise. Mr Brust was a panelist at Confusion, in Troy, MI.) As the DVD sales have done well in the meantime, they may have changed their minds again.

When were the interviews with Mr. DeCandido that Rivergirl mentioned?
