I totally dig the cards with the Serenity in the background, and the text is shiny, too! I prefer the first version with the white header this time. The "WHERE I HAVE BEEN" - line is a bit too detached from the rest, though, I'd lower it a bit. Other than that, pure shininess.

The black sticker doesn't work for me. Maybe black was a bad idea after all, I dunno.
I was thinking more of a Photoshop lens flare, but I can see that the Serenity doesn't look very smooth around the edges (might be the resolution), so putting a flare behind it makes it look worse... you could try softening the edges with the smudge tool if you're using Photoshop.
Hold it. I'm sort of getting a bad conscience here, since this is getting out of hand. I did some art direction work in my career, so suggestions like that to get something to look how I think it would look best come easy, but I sometimes forget that this isn't a job and I'm not your boss.
I'm totally fine with the white background design you did, honestly.

EDIT: As for 11th Hour's suggestions, I like both ideas, but I've SEEN this one and like it. I like the folding part, regardless.

The insert in the DVD case would fold out, and be something separate from the message sticker. It doesn't have to be fancy, in fact it should be simple... just an invitation to folks to jot somethin' down about Serenity.

Thought it might be cool if the DVD told some stories as it traveled along its way...

Thanks, Kryten3, the revisions look awesome!

Actually I do have some experience with Bookcrossings. I've released a few books into the wild in various places including a theater lobby, a restaurant waiting area and an atrium of a hotel.

The ideas of kind of a memory book/yearbook is also a nice idea and not unlike the online log idea of bookcrossings. If we wanted to try something like that, we'd need to make a new thread for each copy released...and then write on the sticker the URL for the thread, inviting whomever gets it to come on in, say 'Hi', what they thought of it, and if the re-release it, to say where they let it back out into the 'verse. 'Course I also like the idea of also letting folks write greetings inside for future viewers. Maybe make a small little autograph booklet ( a few sheets of 8 1/2 X 11 sheets folded in half) like the paper you made but maybe for a bit of fun, call it the 'Ship's Log.'

Yea? Nay? Indifferent?

I've heard airplane bathrooms are great, too.
Linkage to the forum is always shiny, as is a "ship's log".
I just hope this'll work as well - people who read books are usually a bit more sophisticated than the average joe, but the average Joe loves himself some free DVDs to put on his shelf. What I'm trying to say is that people are more likely to just keep a DVD than a book.

Bumpy, bumpy.

I very much want this to be a part of June23rd. It's generous and inspired. So I'm just going to give it a little nudge...

Ooo, I bet a bus terminal would be a good place, too.

Yeah, folks are more likely just to keep it, which is fine, but as we've seen, most people who enjoy our BDH seem to be cut from a different cloth, which may actually make it more likely to continue to pass about. Folks who don't 'get it' aren't really that likely to keep it. they may sell it to a second hand plce, but I'm thinking it'll eventually reach someone its meant to. Which is shiny when ya think on it. (yeah, some days I'm a flamin' optimist. ) With the books, what's more likely to happen is it gets thrown away. Sad, but true.

I think I may do the 'ship's log' thing when I let mine go.

Jana- this idea is shiny, but how about firefly day, thats what this is all about is it not.i agree 100 percent we need to do something more.we need to be recruiting as many people a possible, converting them showing them the true beauty of our beloved show,i agree the net is the best way to get the message across.but fighting the goram networks is not so easy, even with a shiny website.the browncoats need to come together as one and let the networks know we will not stand for there force feeding us the garbage they want us to watch, and we must be blunt.
