Ok, well, this may or may not have been noticed (and posted before), but just incase not or just for those who haven't seen it, I thought I'd toss this out there. I was recently watching Serenity, and one of the people I was watching it with commented that a lot of the shots on Miranda were noticeably too bright. I noted that it was a bright, nearly cloudless day. But he insisted that it was unnaturally bright, as if the film had purposely been overexplosed, to represent "the bright future" (in a mocking sort of way, since the whole planet is dead). This really gave me something to chew on, and it really seems to fit, not to mention it's a pretty powerful directorial diceision, assuming that it was intentional. Any thoughts? Anything else anyone noticed about this or that scene?

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

Joss comments on that in the commentary. He did overblow the light there, though I don't remember him giving a specific reason. I always thought it was a little strange, being that it's the furthest planet out, but you know. It does give a nice contrast to the dark grittiness of most of the movie.

Ok, well thanks for pointing that out. I've watched all the special featurs on the tv show and the movie except the commentaries (I have watched a few of the episode commentaries). I mean to do that someday, but it's so hard, because I always want to see and hear the movie, lol. Anyway, knowing that he did do that with intent just kind of reassures me that he was right. It would be a witty and sarcastic commentary on the society of the 'verse (which seems to be one of the trademarks of Whedon). Kind of his way of saying that this was supposed to be the answer to people's prayers, so to speak. "Shining the light of civilization..." Anyway, thanks again for that.

He says on the commentary that he did it for exactly that reason - this is Utopia, too bright and shiny and unreal.
And well, turns out it is.
