You can switch the region codes on most DVD ROMs up to 5 times. So I got one drive with region 1 (to watch, say, the German Limited Edition, which has the same extras as the Australian DVD) and one drive set to region 2 for my U.S. DVDs. Maybe you could try that.

Btw, I got my Australian tin box 2 days ago, and it is fantastic! And it's got the HUNGARIAN audio track on it, too. Whacky fun!

Agatsu,
Would you happen to have a link to where I can buy me an Australian version of Serenity? I would love to see all those cool extras.

Still flying,

EzyDVD

It's a site that comes up when you google "Australian Serenity DVD" or something similar. But the actual site might be ezydvd.com

Fast shipping too. Or maybe try Ebay.

I got it off Ebay... http://stores.ebay.com/TODAY-AND-YESTERDAY
teija_121212 has 5 more - apparently so far I'm the only one who bought one. It's on BUY NOW for $AU50, +20 shipping (worldwide). All in all that'd be about US$ 50, and it's so worth it. VERY shiny tin box with River and the letters "SERENITY" embossed. I hear you yanks didn't get a Limited Edition, nyah nyah, so the extras on the second DVD should be new for you, too.
The DVD arrived fast, in mint condition and really safely and professionally packaged, and teija herself is very nice. If you buy a box, tell her that guy from Germany recommended her and says G'Day.

Edit: Forget all of that... only HALF that price at ezyDVD? I got robbed!
But it was still worth that.
Anyway, this ezyDVD deal is a BARGAIN! Get it on S-Day, brethren!

Is the PAL the same as Region 4? Isn't PAL a formatting thing? If so, will it play on US dvd players and US TV sets?

I gotta put in my two cents here (I'm feeling like some kinda X-pert these days in this arena...)
I went on a mission to get Serenity dubbed into as many languages as possible. So far, I have DVD's from 8 different countries. (Nathan signed them for me this weekend!!!!! He's got one from Qatar!)

Hence, a good idea of any extras located on non-U.S. releases.

There are two sources in Australia. They offer DIFFERENTLY PACKAGED versions. Both retailers were swift and easy to deal with. Depending on what country you're from, you may be able to skip the standard VAT or flat tax. Ask them.

http://www.ezydvd.com.au/item.zml/784707

This store has the 'tin' encased version.
I also have another one... I'll have to find the vendor's name, that comes with a special 'signed' slipcase - actually it's a print of Joss' signature.

The German (2 versions) and French are easy to pick up on the German and French amazon sites.
I got some of the asian ones on yesasia. Beware, the cheapo ones are probably VCDs, not DVDs. They play, kinda, on my machine but are really only for the Asian market.
I'm hot on the trail of Spannish versions. I'm interested in hearing the actors that dub these roles in other languages. There's a Mexican Spannish and a Madrid Spannish. The Magyar (Hungarian) dub on the Aussie disk is particularly good. Some dubs (Chinese in particular) are rather unsettling; Zoe speaking in a high squeaky voice somewhat underminds her calm cool presence.

Also working on getting the Italian and Russian versions. Russian is proving difficult. While it's only $10 over there, I can't seem to find an online source who'll import to the US. I'm going the friend-of-a-friend route on this one.

Many DVD players in the states are 'secretly' region-free or multi-region. It would be bad for the market if they released this info publically. However, if you go online, you'll easily find a site where you can look for the 'secret code' to unlock your particular model. If not, region-free players are not beaucoup $$$. I made this query awhile back and got some suggestions for brands.

If you want any more of this, or wanna know that other Aussie retailer, just contact me and I'll do my best to answer your questions.

my DVD player has the option of choosing whether or not your tv is pal or ntsc. i left it set to ntsc, changed the region to 4, popped the australian dvd in and it played. otherwise, you can make sure your tv accepts both pal and ntsc because some do both.

On Ebay there was a seller called dark_angel_london (I think). That's who I got my Aussie DVD from and it was well packaged and arrived very quickly.

Cost £30 which isn't too bad.

Course if you can't play it then it really doesn't help much.....

If it's of any help, there's someone from Spain selling a copy on Ebay at the moment. I think it's the same version that's on the dvdgo.com website. The auction number is 9145721856 if you want to check it out. Trouble is they only post to Europe.

I hope someone can help me with this stuff about regions - I tried google and got confuzzled with all the strange sites!
1. Will an x-box play region 1 dvds? Would like to know cos I've ordered 'Done the Impossible'!
2. Same question for region 4 ie. the funky tin box from Austrailia!

I got a PS2, and it only plays region 2 disks - and subsequently, region 4. As a matter of fact, the Aussie DVD is running on it right now in the background. You're from Scotland, so you're region 2 as well. Region 4, the Aussie region, plays on region 2 players without any problems that I'm aware of.
However, I don't know about the X-Box. Can you play imported games from the US? If yes, then you'll probably be able to watch a region 1 DVD.
If not, I recommend setting the region code to 1 (or whatever) on one of your DVD Roms (change possible up to 5 times), like I said in a previous post.
PLEASE WAIT WITH THE ORDER UNTIL JUNE 23RD! It's only 2 weeks away, anyways.
I'm gonna get me another one from ezyDVD then in addition to a bunch of German Limited Edition DVDs.

Always glad to help.

FF4FRx7, I have an unmodified German PS2 (region 2, plays UK imports, as well)), and I watched the Australian Region 4 DVD of the BDM on it yesterday, without any problems whatsoever.
However, seeing that you live on Long Island, your PS2 is probably set to region 1, so the region 4 disk probably won't work.

No problem.
However, you can switch the region code on any DVD ROM drive up to 5 times, so you can just set one to region 2 and leave it there.
It's not complicated... if you put in a DVD that has a different region code, the computer will ask you if you want to switch the settings to that region and tells you how many switches you got left.
I got my drive set to region 2 and my burner set to region 1, so I can watch US, European and Australian DVDs on my computer.
