I was watching an Angel rerun yesterday (Awakening) and it got me thinking about other plot twists that genuinely caught people by surprise and the best cliffhangers for season finales. Anyone have any they would like like to share? Prodigious use of the "spoiler" option when posting is a must for this thread.

I admit, the episode Awakening caught me off guard. I did not discern that the whole sword of whatever and the defeating of the beast was fake until it was revealed in the episode.

I don't know if this falls into this category, but I was totally fooled in the firefly pilot when Mal was telling Simon that Kaylee was dead, mostly because I totally believed that Joss would kill a character in the first episode, it's entirely something he would do. But yea, I totally thought Kaylee was dead, thank god she wasn't.
