America loves a winner!

I posted this in other sci fi series forum. Seems there's quite a gulf between Jackson and NL.

On the one hand, I'm glad the studio is actively thinking of moving ahead w/ the movie. But the thought of PJ not being involved with its making....it's hard to proccess.

People love a happy ending. So every episode, I will explain once again that I don't like people. And then Mal will shoot someone. Someone we like. And their puppy. - Joss

" They don't like it when you shoot at 'em. I worked that out myself. "

I'm more than a bit surprised that there isn't any reaction to this. What gives ?

DREAMWALKER

I don't know. Personally I'm more than a bit surprised that NL is planning on doing something like this without Jackson. Even back as early as when Fellowship came out my mom (who's as obssessed as I am) and I were talking about how Jackson should make the Hobbit with Ian Holmes as Bilbo, Ian Mckellen as Gandalf, and even bring back John Rhys-Davis as one of the Dwarves. I'm kina wondering who they'd cast in a non-Jackson version and how NL is thinking they could make the Hobbit measure up to the LOTR trilogy. I have a very bad feeling about this.

Wash: This landing is gonna get pretty interesting
Mal: Define "interesting".
Wash: Oh God, of God, we're all going to die?

... fully loaded, safety off...

Dreamwalker - with all do respect you shouldn't be suprised. New Line knows they have a built-in audience from the LOTRs trilogy success even if their 'without Jackson' version of The Hobbit blows chunks. If it's a total sh*t sparkle it will still make them lots of $$$$$$$

Also, they have all the leverage - they know we'll line up to see it even if it's made by the lowest nose picking director available. It sucks. It's not *right.* It's FUX and Firefly - we've all seen this before. They. Don't. Care. You know what? They don't care.

Maybe - if you want to think positively - the new director will actually bring something good to their new version - ?

Actually, over at Moviehole.com, they had this new report on the whole "Peter Jackson not doing THE HOBBIT." controversy.

Though he thinks he’s no longer in the race, MGM says they’re not going to give up on Peter Jackson directing “The Hobbit”.

Yesterday, the “Lord of the Rings” director told TheOneRing.net that New Line have removed him from the project. The filmmaker’s statement also reiterated in detail his stance on "The Hobbit" -- that he is not willing to have a serious conversation about directing the film until his ongoing lawsuit with New Line over what he considers improper accounting practices over "LOTR" profits is settled.

New Line's given reason for proceeding sans Jackson is that the studio's rights to the pic are about to expire, and seeing as the lawsuit with Jackson isn't moving ahead, well, the message was that New Line is.

An MGM spokesperson tells Variety today that they’re going to fight for Jackson. The spokesperson states, "The matter of Peter Jackson directing 'The Hobbit' films is far from closed."

You only have to do a Google search for one of the “Rings” forums to see what size backlash this one’s had.

Chris Pirrotta, co-founder of TheOneRing.net says "They [the fans] are very upset, - We are seeing calls for everything from letter writing campaigns to a boycott of the studio."

I have to admit that this is pretty startling news. The fact that a studio is actually willing to fight FOR a director instead of against him. As to whether or not this will actually lead to him making THE HOBBIT, I don't know.

Personally, I'm more interested in seeing his adaptation of THE LOVELY BONES. It's about time Jackson moved away from the $200 million dollar blockbusters and did something more low key and personal. You think adapting Tolkein is tough? Try telling a movie from the P.O.V. of a dead 13 year old girl in heaven who was raped and murdered.

"We have five million Cybermen. How many are you?"
"Four"
You would destroy the Cybermen with four Daleks?"
"We would destroy the Cybermen with ONE Dalek. You are superior in only one respect."
"What is that?"
"You are better at dying."

Trash talk between a Cyberman and a Dalek. It doesn't get any better than that.
