I know this is kind of out there but I will be in Calif for Flanvention 2 this coming week. Turns out the drummer from my all time favorite group, The Runaways, passed away (on my birthday) and ther eis going to be a Tribute for her at The Knitting Factory in LA on Saturday Dec 9th. I am hoping there may be some other Runaways fans that might be interested in sharing a cab or if someone has a car that is interested in going. Post here and let me know. Tickets are $15. Its not that we're not here, I still cry when I think of Sandy, I tried to help with her bills for the past year. Her and Cherie are the 2 Runaways I have yet to meet. It's just that I live in TN and if there was anyway in the 'verse I could get there........I have never wanted to be anyplace more than CALIFORNIA on this weekend!

But, have enough fun for all of us who can't be there!

The timing of the tribute is unbelieveable! I certainly wish there didn't HAVE to be a Tribute. I wish I were going to see Sandy and Cherie play a gig TOGETHER. It was heartbreaking to hear about Sandy! What frosts me is that she couldn't take any of the alternative medicines the fans sent and suggested cause the doctors "had to watch what she ingests" for all the good their conventional meds did.

I made a donation to for her bills, what I could.

I have seen Edgeplay. Sucks that Joan pulled out at the last minute and Victory couldn't do the DVD the way it should have been done but it's still a great documentary.

Oh EDGPLAY is so hard to watch now, with Sandy begging for them to do a reunion, but I know Joan and you cannot mention the Runaways to her. She will have you escorted out. I had such high hopes for a reunion, and Joan, the hold out, really blew it. I worshipped Joan. When I was a kid I saw her at Six Flags and soon as I got out of high school I moved to Long Island and lived 3 miles from Kenny Lagunas door (Joan lived there at the time)and I thought I was her for years! HA! But now with Edgeplay and Joan acting the way she does, I wonder why I bothered. Last time I spoke to her was a few years ago, she came to Atlanta fronting for The Gits (Evil Stig) and she was great. Amy Ray was there waiting for her do do an interview. She toured with them to raise money for Mia Zappata which was great but WHY OH WHY COULDNT SHE DO ALL OF US A FAVOR AND LISTEN TO SANDY'S PLEA AND JUST DO A RUNAWAYS SHOW!
Sorry I'm venting my frustration over NEVER being able to see them. :( In my book though, you are the luckiest person I know this weekend!
But there is at least one Browncoat who is a big damn Runaways fan here! And it sucks to be 3000 miles away! Wish I had a Firefly!

I was at the Atlanta GITS show too!!! How funny is that!! My boyfriend and I went to eat in a Chinese restaurant and Joan and the group were there but I was too chicken to say anything!

That is so shiny that you knew Joan but yeah, I don't understand why she shuns The Runaways, there's no reason for it! I also noticed and I hate to say this but after Mia was killed she was not giving her all at her shows. I've seen her almost a dozen times and by th eend of the first song she would be dripping in sweat from "working" it but later on, not so much. Joan used to be much more approachable! I even got to interview her in the mid 80's for my college paper! Let me quote from the show (you will get a snicker out of this), someone requested Cherry Bomb, Joan's reply "I'll do Cherry Bomb when I dye my hair blonde and wear a corset". Well she did go blond for a while. I never forgot that, especially when she DID Cherry Bomb!

I've been a fan since the beginning (just like with Firefly). And I too am in pain at never getting to see a Runaways show. And now NEVER being able to see a reunion. Sandy was the ONLY drummer, it's not like revolving bass players or even Lita sitting out a reunion but SANDY was it!! I never even got to see Sandy and Cherie together. Sorry, I'm venting too.

I'm afraid to watch Edgeplay again, I'll be crying all through it!

That is so cool you were at that show! We were in the front getting slammed! Then we hung around backstage until her and Amy left. Nobody got invited to that.

I am glad the blonde hair thing is over. Really didn't like that.
You know, all these years I never liked Cherie 'cuz I took Joan's side thinking Cherie was the "traitor" Joan made her out to be, but I'll tell ya', Vicki's movie EDGEPLAY tells the whole story and I think I would've bailed too. That Kim Fowley needs to be shot. Wish they had been older and wiser and ditched him. I think he drove them apart with his control and mind games.
So do you live in the south and are flying out to Cali for the weekend? I'm so jealous!
I got to meet River and Wash at Dragon Con a couple months ago, took my "Jayne's Rucksack" I got from London prop store (from Serenity) and they autographed it for me.

I saw Joan as Columbia!! I couldn't remember if she wore a corset but I don't think so. That was FUN!!

I was in front at the GITS show too! On the right side facing the stage. Do you remember the opening band (which SUCKED), well they actually stopped the show and the leader singer "busted" some people talking in the front that was me and my boyfriend. We were so bored cause they were so bad that we were talking and obviously the lead singer couldn't concentrate. HA HA

Fowley had a great thing with the Ruanways but instead of managing them as a real group, he used them as a tool. Everytime I listen to their music, I think how great it is! It blows some of today's crap out of the water! Now, I'm not saying if Kim hadn't screwed the girls over that they'd stll be aroung but they would have laste dlonger if he'd been a real manager! And I CAN'T believe they are not yet in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland!

You know Joan so you're a better judge than I and I too thought Cherie was the bitch cause Joan was always so nice to the fans but they don't really explain what the deal is in Edgeplay (obviously because of lawsuits).

I'm flying to CA from Florida, St. Pete.

I was at D*C too! Saw all the BDH's that have been there! Natahn, Alan, Adam, Summer, Jewel, Ron, Morena! They are very cool folks! Wow, you got a real Serenity prop, I am jealous! I would kill for an extra $10K to buy the Zoe costume that was on the Prop Store! If you bought any of the small items at the SEBC table some of it was "mine", I make the lanyards and pins and keychains :) I'll be at D*C next year too, how about you?

You're jealous! Your going to Flanvention and all I got is a lousy rucksack! lol. Oh, I am counting the days til DC 2007, 270 to go! You must travel a lot, you get to so many things! I opened this store 2 years ago and havn't been anywhere but DC since. I wanna go to Adventure Con in Knoxville in June, Book will be there. We are having a con here too, Chattacon (small and crappy but the sebc will be there and yes I got some stuff from that table, the car magnets and decals they had, I got a lanyard but I dont remember where (a lot of beer that weekend

) and I got a card for out to the black outfitters and have since spent too much money there! Anyway, my store is a comic and rpg store, old school D&D, Star Wars and of course Serenity! But I'll tell ya' I dont think this store will ever be "in the black" LOL!

No, no Kain, go on the Flan Forum there are tickets still to be had but it will have to be done carefully because the "official" deadline to file the change with Flan was last week but you can STILL get someones ticket (maybe meet them there in person) or get something in writing first. PLUS I would offer no where near face value, at this late date if you buy someones ticket, they should be happy to get anything! Hope to see you!

Me again. Make sure you have the original order numbers for the tickets and here:
*****The deadline is to have badges made. So- here's what you do.... purchase a pass and work out that transaction amongst yourselves.... making sure to get a copy of the original invoice. Then, pick up that person's pass at registration. I suggest still telling me and Socky what you did. So that we know. And you avoid being taken- ie. someone sells you a pass, picks it up, you go to pick it up and it's gone.... so if you send it to me and Socky- then there is a copy of the transaction. The deadline is simply to make sure the badge is in your name, etc. If you don't care about that- and you just want to come - then buy a pass, put you name on the badge with a Sharpie and all is well. Did that make any sense? It's a bit early yet..... *****

I copied this from the BE forum since the actual transfer deadline passed. Try to get a copy of the original invoice and e-mail the BE people, if you can. I would bring a copy of a Paypal receipt if you paid that way. Just to cover yourself!
