In the May 31st issue of Entertainment Weekly (with David Bowie and Moby on it) there is a sneak peek at the new fall season. Basically the writer makes snap decisions based purely on the short clips from the networks fall line-up presentation.

Firefly was in the "Most Promising" category (and there was a small pic of Malcolm, Jayne, and Inara so free publicity is good) however the recommendation didn't seem to do with the actual footage aired:

Firefly (Fox, Fridays, 8-9pm)
Okay, the clips from this "space Western" actually didn't look that hot, but it's penned by Joss Whedon, so who am I kidding? I'm probably gonna love it

There you go. It's all a bit confusing to me. There are so may mixed messages about the pilot. I wondered what about the pilot's clips isn't so hot? Hmmmmm...... maybe the clips just weren't very informative? In any case, even though the EW writer didn't seem overly impressed with the clips - there obviously wasn't anything there so horrible that he panned the show.

It seems like I have heard this bit before. Everytime an industry critic sees the clips, they all say the clip is bad but since it's Joss, they think the show will be good. Fortunetly, it looks like we will get to see the orginal pilot eventually so we will have to wait and see for ourselves.

Anybody know what day Firefly will premiere? I want to start a countdown.

Based on Tim's description I suspect it's the kind of pilot where it's hard to find a short clip that actually carries any punch on its own.

I got the impression it was more of a "slow burn" kinda thing.

One thing that makes me laugh about EW is way back when the X-Files was to be first released they thought it'd bomb, be lucky to last one season. And they thought the tv show "Cop Rock" was going to be great. They did own up to both those statements, but I take a lot of what they say with a grain of salt.

I personally think the show will be great just cuz Joss is at the helm. I'm not a JW apologist but I like what he's done on television. It's not like it's being done by Braga and Berman.

That's because Cop Rock *was* a great show! Not successful... but it was an amazing show, IMO.

Wah?!
Back, ye demon!

"I am a servant of the Secret Fire, wielder of the flame of Anor. You cannot pass. The dark fire will not avail you, flame of Udun. Go back to the Shadow! You cannot pass."

You must be a Balrog to say something that evil!

Of course I'm a fan of Iron Chef and I'm sure there are some that don't like that show, either!

hehe

I love The Iron Chef, too.

But I just don't understand how anyone could not enjoy a serious musical centered on a police station. Honestly, the idea is just brilliant!
