I hadn't noticed this until I saw the message on the Tim Minear board: the official site is online at www.fox.com/firefly/

It looks interesting.

Kewl. Lots of images and videos. It says the site debuts this Fall. I'm guessing this isn't the final layout of the site?

this... excuse the cliched expression... kicks ass! All the video is amazing. I am looking forward to this even more... if that was possible to begin with.

I especially like the pic of Simon and Jayne standing back to back... something about it just looks cool!

Pretty cool considering the show isn't on yet. Love the scripts though. Didn't have the guts to read them but I didn't realize it was the actual script. Looks like Joss even scribbled on it. My guess it'll look even better when the show airs.

I did! The part where Zoe was talking about bloodbaths was *really* cool. It's my new sig!

I thought it was really written (well duh! it's Joss ) - and gave a flavour of what the show will be like without any real spoilers.

The videos were cool but those hand-held shots make me dizzy -

grumble grumble grumble
Flash...
grumble grumble grumble

Okay, I need to rant here. Taking a DEEP breath, but it won't help...

Okay, here' s my thing. I'm getting really, really, really sick of lazy web site designers who have their main page in Flash with ZERO way to get into the rest of the site without it and who also code the site so you NEED Flash and don't give you an alternative.

Maybe it's just me, but when I was taking my multimedia course a couple years back (actually the course was Multimedia Design and Communication--emphasis mine) we had to learn DESIGN and how to DESIGN a site so it not only looks good but it's accessible by nearly everyone, even if it means coding the site twice (say for frames/non-frames, etc). Alas people are too lazy to do anything right these days. **sigh** Fox lazy cause is how I feel.

Okay, end rant.

Does anyone have a back-door into the site? And does it still require Flash or is it nice, simple Javascript?

Thanks in advance, and sorry for ranting.

See if you can go here:

http://www.fox.com/firefly/main.htm

It's the page after the Flash Intro.

Personally, I'm beginning to dislike Flash a lot because of their use in PopUp ads.

After I read the script pages, which I loved, I was thinking about that 'book' thing they were reading from. It seemed familiar somehow and then it hit me. Wasn't there something similar in the book Dune? Anyone?

I can't remember Dune too clearly - seems like it had snippets from all kinds of fictional sources, such as the Orange Bible or whatever, but the Firefly script calls it the Universal Encyclopedia and Isaac Asimov's Foundation stories, from the 40s on, had an Encyclopedia Galactica. There are lots of similar things, I'm sure, but that's the "reference work of the future" that sticks out in my mind. Or do you mean the mechanical device seems familiar? Various sorts of "eBook readers" have been all over SF forever - and now they're real.

Thanks for the quick reply. Yeah, I meant the reader. Interesting, I don't remember seeing anything like that before. Cool.

On the other note, the Encyclopedia thing reminded me of the Time Machine movie that just came out. I don't know if its in the book though, cause I still haven't been able to bring myself to read it. That book is just so...
