Hello, I've been a Firefly fan since episode one and had to miss many episodes because of my cable provider's signal degrading. I just got my DVD collection and watched the pilot last night. I just wanted to say how screwed Joss Whedon was from the very beginning when he started on this venture. Having brought the network a pot of gold with Buffy, this is how they treat him?

Seeing the pilot, which wasn't aired until the very end, it made the first aired episode make much more sense, especially the opening scene in the bar. Why where they even there? You really would have NO idea if you hadn't seen the pilot. That is just one example.

I believe the network executives that gave Joss the chance to do this wanted to see him fail all along, for how can you reasonably expect to air a series starting not with the pilot, but with the episode FOLLOWING the pilot. Isn't a pilot by definition the episode that sets the storyline in place? What kind of career training prepares you for the school of "this is your brain, this is your friendly neighborhood network executive's brain on a programming team" (cut to the frying pan with the fried eggs in it.)?

I hope they sell the hell out of the DVD, and make those network executives that played this cruel joke on all of us viewers get what's coming to them. But, they probably won't, and will just get richer on their lousy decision making courtesy of all of us fans. Good writing is hard to come by on television today, but that doesn't seem to be important to anyone making programming decisions for networks.

There does seem to be a tendency in Hollywood that anyone becoming a genius, or showing real talent gets knocked down a peg or two right afterwards. When they start singing your praises, start watching your back.

"Wash, where is my damn spaceship?"

Good News is that my local Target was sold out of Firefly yesterday when I wnet to buy it. Lots of people are buying the DVD.

Bad News is that my local Target was sold out of Firefly yesterday when I went to buy it. They apparently didn't realize that I deserve a copy of the DVD more than the other yahoos who bought it.

I had originally pre-ordered from Amazon.com, but to my surprise my wife saw it at Target and due to a backorder on another item at Amazon.com cancelled the order. I take it as a good sign, however, that someone in purchasing at Target saw this product as something they could move. They will surely be ordering more if the units they did order for their shelves are gone 3 days after its release. I was expecting it only to be available via online ordering, not at a retail outlet.
