I was listening to the commentary track on I believe "THe Message" episode, and Alan and Jewel were commenting on how much they filmed that day, and how expensive it was per foot.

Was Firefly shot on FILM?! That would be awesome if it was...

Mal: "Seems like we arrived here in the nick of time. What does that make us?"
Zoe: "Big damn heroes, sir!"

And that is how Universal is able to air it in High Definition on their HD Channel. Plus Joss shooting in widescreen format even though FOX told him it would only air in 3:4 format.

Just one more reason to love Joss Whedon.
