It's a new mini-series made by fans of the original Star Trek that is debuting this month. The reason I think that it is relevant to FF is summed up in this quote from the sites FAQs:

The new show will be the continuing voyages of Captain Kirk and the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise, NCC-1701 as seen in the 1966-69 television series, “Star Trek”. The series was cancelled after its third season. We are restarting the series as if it were in its fourth year.

Now, I don't think that FF fans should be clamouring to produce a new FF series just yet, but it is nice to see fan revival efforts.

This could, however, be an interesting opertunity for us to get some more exposure for FF DVDs... The makers of "New Voyages" are selling DVDs and using all the money they raise for charity.

What about trying to raise some cash to get some sort of FF DVD set ad onto the DVD or webcasts? (Maybe some info about how to get involded in getting the movie made, and this site as well

). I mean, this is our demographic here. ORIGINAL Star Trek fans have gotta love FF, for them ost part.

Plus, any money they make on this venture is going to a childre's charity, so it'd be a good diversion of funds, imho.

FOFFILMS

Though Firefly fans may not be clamoring for a fan film yet, they're getting one.

My production team is currently working on a fan film set in the firefly verse. It will follow a different crew, but will hold to the ideals and setting of firefly.

It's in early pre-production right now with the first epsidode scripted and we're working on effects and casting currently.

The fans on this board have been extremely helpful in offering time and help as well as donations of their 3d models and efforts. We have a great community growing here!

I think your idea of trying to get a ad onto their dvd is a nice thought, but unfortunately you will run into legalese trouble, and even though they are planning to distribute the dvd's for charitable donations, I think they will run into issues with Paramount, who discourage fan effort films in general anyway.

I think they are going to have to make their dvd's available completely free and if you want to donate seperately to the charioty you can. The quid pro quo aspect, even though no money is going to the producers, will surely ruffle the notoriously tight fisted grip of paramount (who i believe are scared the fan efforts will be better than recent trek outings)

Anyway, the community here is really great, so I am sure every effort will be made to promote and help try and sell fox / universal on the film as a executable idea.

The folks at www.5yearmission.com aka Star Trek New Voyages, Do not have legal rights to use paramount/viacom trade marks and copyrights. I don't think they will get very far selling DVD's I don't think they will be on line showing anything for long or selling anything.They are on very dangerous legal ground. will be intresting to see how soon they get shut down.

Thanks for the interest in our project!

Just to clarify, we will not be 'selling dvd's' and the episode is available online for free. Donations to the charity will of course be accepted and are encouraged. A dvd will be made available and given to people in appreciation for donations over a certain amount (I believe)but no money is being made by this venture, I assure you. I myself have put a sizeable amount of money into this venture and do not expect to see anything in return. It's for a good cause and if everyone that sees it gave even a dollar, it would make a big difference!
