Ok, ok, my favorite is a poor choice since we haven't seen a episode yet. But who has your ears pricked? Which crew memeber's picture held your gaze the longest? Who made you think : I wanna see more of him/her/it*?

Book - The Shepherd
Inara - The Ambassador
Jayne - The Mercenary
Kaylee - The Mechanic
Malcolm - The Captain
River - The Fugitive
Simon Tam - The Doctor
Wash - The Pilot
Zoe - The Soldier

Book to me is Andromeda's Rev Bem without the cool Magogness of that character. Unless he really surprises me, color me not that interested.

Wash, like Book has been done already on Andromeda only his name is Harper. Hopefuly he will have his own spin.

Simon Tam is a blank. Don't know much about him at all.

Zoe is our tough girl. Could be good could be bad.

Malcolm is way to young to be Captain, especialy this dark near defeat Capatin we are hearing about. The actor will make or break this character.

My Picks :

Jayne : The best of the guys so far. I loved this guy in ID4 and i can't wait to see him grab some spotlight. His pictures look great, he seems to have so much presence. Just what is needed for the Ship's Designated Bada$$.

Inara : So Much Yum packed into such a tiny package!

Kaylee : You just have to give props to a engineer who wears a kimono. If Inara wasn't on the show she could take Inara's position. And she could still win it when we see her in motion!

Crud!

Forgot River : Her picture looks interesting but right now she is almost as much of a blank as the Doctor.

For me, it's a tough choice between all the ladies on the ship...

Inara -- who doesn't love prostitutes?
Kaylee -- she's cute; actually I'm not interested in her so much.
River -- seems like a nuttier version of Fred, and I love fred.
Zoe -- hot badass soldier.

I'm going with Zoe.
And Book looks to be the most interesting male character.

MALCOLM

The captain aside... it's a tough call...

Adam Baldwin as "Jayne" has to rock, I mean you take the crazy guy from FMJ and confine him to a small spaceship... And, oh yeah, he's funny. I like funny.

That being said, Alan Tudyk is always great (and funny) and he kinda looks like Joss, so he'll probably get a lot of great lines.

I can't decide. As for holding my gaze... Zoe? Inara? I'll have to wait and see.

These are the characters I'm most interested in:

Kaylee: Cute. Smart. Probably funny.

Inara: sultry, sexy, refined and cultured. And a ho. You betcha.

River: psychic psycho? yeah baby.

Wash: I like the actor, the character looks like he could be quite a pisser.

I've got to say River. Being crazy and "The Fugitive" makes her character more interesting. It'll be neat to see what Joss does with her as a person.

After her, Mal seems kinda cool. And Nathan Fillon is Canadian so I've gotta cheer for the home team!

Well she certainly looks interesting but we just don't know much about her!

She will ahve to work hard though to beat the droolworthy Inara!

I want the Zoe/Wash relationship to be important, otherwise he's just Harper and she's just Gina Torres playing Gina Torres again.

I want Book to be scary like Zhaan, but he probably wont be.

Summer 'Christini Ricci' Glau could do well if they don't fall into the normal psychic pitfalls. I want a psychic who knows things clearly, not vague and mystical; and who has no guilt about messing with people' heads, or trying to restrain her 'power'.
Her bro just keeps reminding me of Guy Pearce's Time Machine fella.

Jayne may turn into Tyr, but the actor's good so it may be a bit more subtle.

Kaylee may be early-Willow, so I should like her.

(I'm sorry I keep referrring to everyone by someone else, but I have restricted schema.)

I think the most interesting character will be Mal, coz he's new. I want him to be horribly flawed in as many ways as possible! Oh, and he is the spit of my friend Dave!!!

I don't get these constant comparisons to other characters from other sci-fi shows.

Joss Whedon is a far more talented writer than most (I'd say any) of the writers who developed the characters to whom people keep comparing Firefly's cast. They'll be much more round and developed and... real... than any of their "ancestors."

It's pretty pointless to bring out superficial similarities and instantly say a character will be the same as another character from another show. Sure, they may have similar positions on the crew, but they most certainly will not be like anything we've seen in a sci-fi show. And if they are, they'll be given a new spin and different motivations.

It's fine to compare, and I don't want to look like I'm trying to inhibit anyone's fun... I just don't get it.

One thing about River... she's not a full-fledged psychic. She's a "borderline" psychic... if that helps clear up any internal conflicts you have.

Speculating what kind of show it might be is one thing, but speculating things like 'favorite character' or 'coolest thing about the ship' or stuff like that just feels ... well ... not to be mean, but kinda stupid. Maybe a better word would be incredibly premature.

Hey, you're absolutely right. But this is what fans do. Don't you know where the word comes from?

Have you seen the official website's message board for Firefly? They're still ranting about how Dark Angel got cancelled because of Firefly.

Our discussions may seem a bit premature, but at least they're discussions.

BTW, welcome to our little online community here.
