I just dropped about $175 on two copies of the core book, adventure book, the first volume of the firefly companion, and am ready to bring it to my table.
Has anyone palyed this before? how did it go?

Oh, I just love the concept! The books are an absolute treasure, they're written in a firefly style voice, lots of humour and dialect and flavour. The game system is really simple, which for character creation and dice rolling actually makes things kind of nice.

Particularly good are the "plot points' which the GM rewards at their discretion, and which you can add to your rolls to change the outcome of an event, or introduce some nice character development/backstory.

Some people think the combat is just a little too simple... But there's been a module released that builds on the Serenity system (though more generally applicable, like if someone wanted to build a fantasy game or something and not use D&D rules), and it outlines combat a little more. Forget what it's called, but there's probably a link to it on the Serenity RPG wikipedia page.

It's a great system, there's a few gaps in the rules that you'll run into from time to time, as well as a few over complicated rules that need some simplifying, in my group at least. But overall it's one of my top 3 systems.

"Haha, mine is an evil laugh."
