Outlaw Star: who stole from who?

So, supposedly Joss stole from Outlaw Star. (yeah right!)

As far as I can tell the main similarities are

- set in space
- group of renegades, not exactly bad guys but living outside the law
- one particular scene where their 'cargo' is revealed to be a young woman

As many have said it's pretty minor similarity to be called stealing - I'm sure we'll soon see more differences than common stuff.

But it got me thinking of a movie with the same elements - Alien: Resurrection - written by one J Whedon, not his best work admittedly.

Oh and Alien: Resurection came out in 1997 and Outlaw Star in 1998.

Who's stealing from who again?

No, Firefly is a straight ripoff of ST: TOS. Consider. There's a Captain. There's a stern-looking First Officer. There's a compassionate-looking doctor. There's a quirky engineer. And -- get this -- both the captain and the engineer are played by Canadian actors! How can you argue with these facts???!!!
