HAWK

Evenin' all, this is my first post here. I'm an english DVD initiate of about two months and I'm passing the DVDs round to all my friends.

At any rate, is there any news regarding the Serenity firearms? Mal's gun in the series always looked a bit oily-plastic to me. Also the sounds of the guns were rather mild I feel, a cross between the traditional "laser" SFX and a normal gun. It's just a little concern of mine but now the BDHs aren't under Fox's yoke anymore they can produce a satisfying "hammer" sound.

On a similar note, I was wondering what everybody's thoughts are on Leone influences in Firefly. You know the schtick in the Dollars movies; highly talented assassins moving through the wastes, drawing like lightning and shooting with unerring accuracy.

Would anybody like to see that in Serenity? Or should the movie play the show's average joe angle exactly as it was played in the show? I myself don't mind either way.

THEREALME

Welcome, Hawk. Glad to have you here.

Somewhere here (in the Blue Sun Room, I think), there are example pics of Mal's, Zoe's, and both of River's guns. Maybe Jayne's too. Not easy to find, I'm afraid, but you could look.

There was a question about River's guns, for example. As to if the gun she used in War Stories was the very one at the beginning of Objects in Space. The conclusion was, they were different.

KOHAN

welcome...

Regarding the gun sounds; if what you state were true, you'd think after spending all that time and money on visual effects and to "lack of" sound in space, that they could reused old gun sounds out of the sound library at fox?

I forgot where I read this, but it was stated that the guns that our BDH uses is basically a more refined chemical-based firearm. (instand of the conventional gun powder) Therefore more rounds can fit onto one clip, (that's why you don't see them reload as much) and the sound is slightly off from what you'd think it be.

There's a lot of knowledgeable people on this site with regards to firearms (or at the very least, more knowledgable than me - which isn't saying much). I've learned a lot from various threads that have come up over time. Here are some that may be of interest to you.

I always presumed that the constraints of network tv were responsible for the "gentler" guns.
