I recently heard Godsmack's song Serenity, and while I wouldn't call myself a Godsmack fan, this song sounds like it would be a great closing credits song. Any thoughts? I'm not sure if this had already been discussed, I don't see a search function anywhere.

I can see that, or hear it, as end credit music for the movie. But it would have to come after "The Ballad of Serenity", and preferably an extended version.

Yeah - I'm not too much of a Godsmack fan, but I did consider making a video to it... Sure, my lack of video editing skills and technical knowledge could prove a hindrance, but uh... yeah.

Also perhaps good - 9 mini Hero of xxx ? For each of the BDH...

I don't think it's very likely. Marketing would suggest that some song off the movie's soundtrack (be it instrumental or not), will be rolling on the credits. And there's not a lot of money to be had for the studio by a song that's already out there, mainstream, and available through other outlets (the Godsmack album).

I agree that there is probably not a lot of money to be spent on expensive music. But heres a thought. I am in a band and we just released our first CD. I'm a huge Firefly fan and I'm trying to introduce the rest of the guys to it. We were talking just this past weekend that it would be cool to do a Firefly song(soundtrack or otherwise), but really didn't pursue it. Then I read your post today. Spooky timing. Anyway, what if we the fans came up with a soundtrack song. I'm sure there are other musicians and wordsmiths out there reading this. I can probably convince the rest of the band to record it for a demo, or somebody else can record it. We could do it as a collaboration of fans or as a contest or something. It would be a great marketing gimmick for Universal and I'm sure we would all work very cheap(read free).
