Joss Whedon may be missing from this Fall's TV schedule, but the Whedonverse Multimedia Project plans to make sure he won't be missing from your public library.

As part of our "Hometown Libraries of the Stars" campaign the mid-Manhattan branch of the New York Public Library system was nominated to receive an offer of DVD boxed sets for Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, and Firefly in Whedon's honor.

It is a fitting tribute that the project will begin in Manhattan where Whedon grew up. The plans are to have these three critically acclaimed series available to libraries all across the country.

Other libraries included in the project will be from the hometowns of the stars who helped bring Whedon's vision to life. In the first round of nominations, the libraries for the five stars below will also be contacted and offered a donation of DVDs.

Julie Benz - Murrysville, PA
Adam Busch - East Meadow, NY
Jewel Staite - Vancouver, CAN
James Marsters - Modesto, CA
Alyson Hannigan - Atlanta, GA

In addition, the following libraries have already signed up to be on the waiting list:

Chattanooga-Hamilton County Bicentennial Library - Tennessee
Delton District Library - Michigan
Round Lake Area Library - Illinois

You GO Mutant Boosters!

I love these guys, always coming up with great ways to call attention to the 'verse. What a smart idea to get our shows in libraries!

no good deed goes unpunished, here is a link:
http://www.metronews.ca/column_tube_talk.asp?id=3459&cid=650
where they say:

AS BAD AS MOONIES, THESE PEOPLE: Something called the Whedonverse Multimedia Project issued a press release, outlining their plan to get the works of Joss Whedon – creator of Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Angel and Firefly – into public libraries all over the U.S. and Canada.

Fans of the show will collect donations and purchase DVDs to be placed in public libraries, which obviously need Buffy more than, say, new dictionaries or actual printed books.

To kick off the project, organizers asked fans to nominate libraries in the hometowns of their favourite residents of the Whedon universe, in front of or behind the camera, with the result that Jewel Staite’s hometown of Vancouver (Kaylee on Firefly) was included in the list of lucky libraries.

Buffy fans. I swear, one day, medical science will find a cure for this terrible affliction.

All news is good news!

And, speaking from experience, this helps the libraries. People come in to moan how money's being spent on that sci-fi rubbish, and discover ways to support the things they prefer (here in my bit of England we call them "friends' groups", don't know if it's the same elsewhere).

Plus, on at least one occasion I've seen, having a literate dyed-in-the-wool librarian extolling the virtues of the Whedonverse can chalk up extra Buffy fans.

My mom's a librarian, so i got someone on the inside. Firefly's on order, should be on the shelf in a week or so.

But here's something you should ALL know. You can get firefly in your local library really, really easily. Basicly it consists of walking up to the reference desk and asking "Hey, do you have firefly?" When they don't, they might ask you if you want to fill out a "request for order" form (or you might hafta ask for it though if you go to some sort of retarded library where they're not into costomer service).

Fill out the form and give it to them.

Here's where it gets a little iffy, the form goes to the powers above, and if library administration decides that it isn't the kind of thing they want in the library, usually because they don't think public interest is high enough, they won't order it.

A surefire way to avoid this is to get all your friends to go to the same library and fill out the same "request for order" form. If there is interst, the library almost has to order it.

The only other thing is that when the DVDs come in, you have to check them out (or at least thats how it goes at my library), as do everybody else who filled out a form.

Oh yeah, and you probably have to get a library card (if you don't already have one). But thats really easy.

Make sense?
