Ok, someone please please please tell me they've finished this book, -- none of my RL friends read it,I've not been able to find a decent website disucssion, and I'm in desperate need of decent discussion!

I have read the final dark tower. It'd be nice to get a little discussion going. I thought it was a very fitting end for the series but I wish there were a few more visits from people we knew in other books. I'm assuming you've read it as well. What are your thoughts of it?

Just in case anyone cruising this board can't figure it out from my first post --- here be spoilers aplenty. You don't wanna know -- don't read this! :)

Well, currently I'm still damning Steve-o to the lowest pit of hell every time I see the book lying around my house -- but in a month, I'll have decided it was the best book ending ever. Same thing happened with the Angel series ender.
It was a fitting ending, but dammnit -- it wasn't fair, to Roland or us. Not fair, and I don't care if I sound like I'm six. :)

And dude! I wanna know what happened to Cuthbert! And we heard mention of Jamie DeCurry like 4 times, and then -- nada. What's up with him?
What about Alain? I was just re-reading Drawing of the Three (because now I hafta re-read all of them, of course), and I'd forgotten it said that Alain died by Roland's and Cuthbert's hand. I mean, WTF, seriously?! I wanted to know the really horrible crap that went on in the past -- not every tiny little bit, because I do like some frustrating mystery, but at least tell me how Cuthbert and Alain died, man!

I found the ending rather fitting actually. I was expecting not to like the ending at all but once I got there I realized it was the only ending that really fit. One of the main themes of the books is that ka is a wheel. That is one big ass wheel. But I'm glad he got his horn on this go around and it gives you hope that it will be different.
Which book did it said that Alain dies by Roland and Cuthbert's hand? and where? I don't remember that. I always figured they died at the Battle of Jerhico Hill that he refers to quite often.
He did say that he would eventually be rewriting all the books like he did with book 1 so I hope some of those questions will be answered that way!

Oh, I agreed -- it was fitting. Just not fair in any way, shape or form. And I sure as hell didn't see that coming -- frankly, I mostly expected Roland to die with the Tower still miles and miles away, and maybe only Jake to make it there. And I'd be curious to know why he came back to that specific spot -- what is it about that spot in time that makes him go back to it?

Cuthbert does appear to have died at Jericho Hill, but in Drawing of the Three, when Roland is running around in Jack Mort's body buying bullets, it says, "...He had no urge to kill his own. But he had done it before, hadn't he? Yes. Had not Alain himself, one of his sworn brothers, died under Roland's and Cuthbert's own smoking guns?" That's the question I want answered-- I have a great fondness for Alain, and I just wanna know what the HELL that's all about, man! What happened?!

Well, you folks were faster than myself in finishing DT7, but I just finished it. I loved it. I never imagined that this would be how it ended, but it is fitting. Ka is a wheel after all. The main thing that I was disappointed about was that Jack Sawyer and Speedy Parkus were never mentioned. After I read Black House, I thought for sure they would make some kind of appearance. But, alas they did not. I can live with it. I did not know that King said that he was going to reissue all of the books like he did with The Gunslinger. I have been saying that I am going to have to re-read all of the books, so I hope he comes out with the re-issues sooner than later. One other thing that surprised me was that Flagg went out when and how he did. I guess King wanted to show how powerful a threat Mordred was, but I figured Flagg would have more of presence in the last book than he did (not a complaint, mind you). Very fitting end, indeed.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

An excellent novel. I literally just finished it 10 minutes ago, so I'm still in a lot of shock.
The ending seems very fitting, and yet not fitting at the same time. Although the afterward in which King points out that Roland found his horn helps take the edge off.

The deaths in this last book, while not unexpected, were all pretty hard to take. I honestly had no idea who was going to die at the beginning, which I suppose shows just how great of a writer King is. I'm just glad that Roland didn't end up dead.

The epilogue featuring Susannah in New York was a nice way of providing a happy ending for Roland's Ka-tet. I kind of wish Oy would have been shown (even though the narrator mentions that he joins the group later) because I think Oy deserved as much as the other three.

All in all, I have to say that this feels like the right way to end the Dark Tower. As much as the details of the story may have been changed over the years, the overall story feels right. I'm just disappointed that there won't be any more Dark Tower novels to look forward to now.

SEVENPERCENT

I finished the book over vacation- The ending was the only ending it COULD have had- What I like to think it means is that he is trapped, and cannot come to terms with the choices he has made (as evidenced by the fleeing from some rooms and skipping others), and therefore doomed to repeat his mad quest for the Tower (of which he will always succeed)- But what I liked about it is that there is always HOPE, symbolized by the horn at the end- Hope that this time he will get it right, and be done-

The only thing I really didnt care for was the confrontation with the Crimson King- Very cartoonish (pardon the drawing pun), and not what I wanted-

Also, even though there were a few characters from his other works apearing in the end, there werent enough, given how many other books he devoted to the tower- Ted I expected to make an appearance, but he could have brought a few better characters in instead of Dinky Earnshaw-

But overall it was fantastic- as someone who has read everything 'ol SK ever wrote, I was almost drooling waiting for the book, and didnt put it down till I finished it-
